Musiala was stretchered off in the first half of Bayern's 2-0 Club World Cup quarter-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday following a coming together with Donnarumma. After the defeat, Bayern stopper Neuer criticised the Italian's actions, both in terms of the challenge and his reaction to the incident.

    WHAT NEUER SAID

He told reporters: "A situation where you don't have to go in like that! That's reckless. He accepts the risk of injuring his opponent.

"I went to him and said, 'Don't you want to go to our player?' It's a matter of respect to go over and wish the guy all the best. He did it afterward. (…) Fairness is always important. I would have reacted differently."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Neuer's remarks echoed ones made by Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, who said his "blood was boiling" over the Musiala injury, and sporting director Max Eberl said Donnarumma wasn't being "considerate" with his actions. The 22-year-old is arguably Bayern's best player, and if he is out for a long time, that is a massive blow for the German giants.

It remains to be seen how long German international Musiala, who was taken to a nearby hospital in Atlanta on Saturday, will be out for. But going by his reaction to the challenge, it seems this could be a serious injury.

McDermott's fifty and Turner's dot balls give Hampshire key victory

Lawes' maiden five sinks Kent as Surrey cement top spot into the Championship break

Young seamer secures personal landmark as Burns seals win in a hurry

Dom Sibley and Rory Burns walk off after sealing victory for Surrey•Getty Images for Surrey CCC

Surrey 362 (Abbott 78, Sibley 60, Bhuiyan 4-65) and 58 for 0 (Burns 36*, Sibley 16*) beat Kent 278 (Evison 77*, Lawes 3-41) and 141 (Muyeye 42, Lawes 5-22) by 10 wicketsIt speaks to Surrey’s qualities as defending champions that even losing a bowler of Kemar Roach’s calibre does not hold them back. And it says even more of the nurturing qualities down in south London that the West Indian’s replacement, 20-year-old Tom Lawes, would be the one to fire Surrey to a fourth win of the season.Lawes only turned 20 on Christmas Day – for the record, he only gets one set of presents – but almost singlehandedly blitzed Kent in the second innings. Figures of five for 22 snuffed out the visitors for 141 on day three, handing Rory Burns and Dom Sibley a simple double-figure chase, knocked off so quickly that the Kia Oval felt compelled to let the hundreds of spectators use the ground as a glorified picnic area for an hour or so after this 10-wicket win had been confirmed. This was Lawes’ maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket, beginning late on day two when he changed the direction of this match with a 2.4 over spell that accounted for Tawanda Muyeye and then Jack Leaning. The latter was the day’s final ball, meaning the seamer had two deliveries to finish from the Micky Stewart Pavilion End on Saturday morning. Burns decided to stick with him for longer.Within seven deliveries, Kent skipper Sam Billings had edged through to Ben Foakes and Zak Crawley – the set batter, arriving overnight on 31 – had been squared up by a wider release, edging to Ollie Pope at second slip. At that point, Kent were six down, Surrey still a run ahead and Lawes boasted absurd figures of 4 for 3. A misdirected bouncer, no-balled as it raced away for four byes, put Kent into the lead.Jordan Cox and Joey Evison did their bit to make Lawes’ figures a little less absurd. The latter, however, ended up as number five as Lawes tailed one in late enough to sneak through Evison and send his off stump for a walk. With the heart ripped out, Lawes stepped aside to allow Sean Abbott and Jordan Clark pick through a Kent line-up in real strife. Since winning their opening match of the season against Northamptonshire, Kent have lost three out of four. This, their second inside three days, sends them into the relegation zone. You could say Lawes’ five-bag was overdue, particularly given that on four previous occasions he had had to make do with four in an innings. But this was always coming. His 18 wickets across six appearances in 2022’s Championship win spoke of undoubted quality, and gave him the lowest average of the squad (23.72).Returning this winter, his action looks a little more like Chris Woakes’, and Burns is certain he has got quicker. Lawes is one of those nippy quicks who loses very little off the pitch, which explains why his short ball surprised Muyeye and Leaning (bowled off his elbow), and good lengths hit hard did for Billings and Crawley. He’s already made it to 15 dismissals from just three games and has also pocketed new career-best match figures of eight for 63 after three for 41 in the first innings.”It’s a very special moment,” said Lawes of this first five-wicket haul. “Especially walking off in front of the Pavilion. It’s a memory I’m not going to forget, really. To do it with all the teammates and all our mates. Wonderful memories.”I wasn’t sure if I was going to get a bowl (at the end of day two). But with two overs at the end, I was going to steam in and try and make something happen. To get those two at the end (Muyeye and Leaning) last night, that really set up today.”As far as young players at Surrey go, Burns wasn’t sure on where he’d rank, but likened his impact to Sam Curran, who arrived into the first-team at the age of 17 and never looked back. “It’s similar to when Sammy came onto the circuit,” said Burns. “His knack of producing things – when you need a moment, he finds it with a little bit of fairy dust.”Lawes is one of those allrounders in the early stages of their career where one suit is garnering more headlines than the other. Those who’ve been involved in his development through the ranks, both at Surrey and Cranleigh School, emphasise his middle-order activities with the bat.We got a sight of that last summer when he compiled 318 runs at 53.00 in the Royal London Cup, filling in throughout the sideshow competition as Surrey’s squad was ransacked by the men’s Hundred. A few weeks back, he opened the batting in the second innings with Dan Worrall with just 11 needed for victory against Warwickshire. Lawes somehow ended up with 14 not out after finishing the match with a six into the Hollies Stand. He was not required to strap the pads on this time around. A target of 58 was probably a little too dear to take the piss, though Burns marched out and set the tone for another quick kill with 10 off the first four deliveries of the fourth innings. The skipper then greeted Jack Leaning’s off-spin with a reverse sweep for six. When 50 was brought up after 9.4 overs, Burns had 33 of them. With scores level, the left-hander advanced down the track, scuffing a shot over the top off the bowling of Arafat Bhuiyan. It stopped a couple of feet short of the boundary but Burns and Dom Sibley had already crossed and were on their way back to greet each other for a job well done after just in 11.3 overs. But for the miscued winning run, this was about as perfect a win you could get, completed seven minutes before lunch on day three. The sun just getting to its glorious best, the weekend now open to all possibilities. The season itself, however, feels just like last. Surrey are top going into the white-ball break, winning four of six so far – one more than they managed in the same period at the start of last season. Even with England call-ups for red- and white-ball duty, they look primed to go back-to-back.

Not just Kristensen: 49ers must sell Leeds flop who's cost £525k-per-game

After relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 season, it was to be expected that Leeds United would lose numerous players ahead of their return to the Championship.

Tyler Adams was the most high-profile departure, leaving to join Bournemouth in a £20m deal, ending his one-year stay at Elland Road after being unable to prevent the side dropping into the second tier.

After notching 28 goals for the Whites over a three-year period, Spanish forward Rodrigo also departed Yorkshire, moving to Qatari outfit Al-Rayyan after they triggered his £3m relegation clause.

Such departures were inevitable, raising funds but also clearing somewhat of the wage bill, something which was vital to avoid any form of financial breach after dropping down a division.

One other player departed on loan during the aforementioned window, with the former first-team star now looking set for a permanent move away from the club this summer.

Rasmus Kristensen’s stats for Leeds United

Danish full-back Rasmus Kristensen joined Leeds in a deal worth around £10m during the summer of 2022, looking to provide added quality to the defensive department.

However, despite making 32 appearances across all competitions and registering three goals, it wasn’t enough to stop the side dropping into the Championship, with the defender leaving on loan as a result.

Leeds United defender Rasmus Kristensen

He would subsequently join Roma for the entirety of last season before linking up with Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on another temporary spell for the ongoing campaign.

It’s emerged in recent days that the German side are set to purchase the 27-year-old permanently at the end of the season for a fee in the region of £6.7m, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.

It’s safe to say the Whites have conducted excellent business in offloading the full-back, with the 49ers needing to make sure another one of their Premier League additions follows him out of the door in the coming months.

The player who’s cost Leeds £525k per appearance

Over the years, Leeds have spent heavily to try and become an established top-flight outfit once again, but more importantly have also conducted shrewd business in offloading players.

Georginio Rutter

Georginio Rutter joined during the spell in the Premier League but still managed to make a profit on him after his showings in the second tier – highlighting the hierarchy’s impressive work in the market.

However, it’s highly unlikely that boss Daniel Farke would be able to say the same with Max Wober should the defender depart at the end of the season.

The Austrian joined the club in a £11m deal from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2023, making 19 appearances before the Whites suffered relegation at the end of his first campaign in Yorkshire.

He would subsequently join Borussia Mönchengladbach on loan for the 2023/24 season before returning for the ongoing year – but has been unable to cement his place in the starting eleven.

The 27-year-old has made just seven appearances across all competitions in 2024/25, currently missing due to a knee injury, but could return to action in April for the business end of the season.

When combining his transfer fee with his earnings of £35k-per-week wage, he’s cost a total of £525k per appearance he’s made in Yorkshire – a figure way too high given his lack of impact in recent times.

With the prospect of a return to the Premier League on the cards, Farke will want as many funds as possible to improve the playing squad to avoid an immediate return back to the Championship.

Wober could join Kristensen out of the door in the coming months, allowing for fresh blood in the backline, potentially making room for further investment in such a department in the near future.

Better than James & Gusto: Chelsea sold "exceptional" star for just £8m

Chelsea are known to have one of the best academy systems in Europe, with the likes of Peter Osgood graduating from the academy, John Terry going from a 14-year-old signed by the club to the club captain, and a crop of players who are now scattered across the league at various clubs.

Mason Mount, Dominic Solanke, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Lewis Hall, Valentino Livramento, Marc Guehi, Nathan Ake, Declan Rice, Tariq Lamptey and Ian Maatsen are just some of those in England, whilst the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jamal Musiala and Conor Gallagher are all thriving outside of England.

Whilst Chelsea have clearly produced high-end talent in every area of the pitch, there seems to be a clear pattern of highly rated full-back talents emerging through Cobham, with plenty of the above list leaving the club due to the emergence of another Cobham talent, who goes by the name Reece James.

Chelsea's right-back situation

James is now 25 years old and has made 168 appearances for Chelsea since breaking through into the first team from the academy, following a prior loan spell at Wigan Athletic.

The talented right-back has scored 12 goals and provided 23 assists in that time, totalling 11,503 minutes played, which includes playing a significant role in their 2020/21 Champions League triumph.

Despite the clear abundance of talent James has, one thing that has held him back throughout his career is persistent injury troubles, already missing 104 games in his Chelsea career so far, suffering from injuries or illness on 15 occasions.

Malo Gusto is another talented right back Chelsea have on their books, with him and James often rotating in Enzo Maresca’s side, looking to offer tactical balance for the Italian in his game plan.

However, Chelsea may have let go another Cobham academy graduate who would have been a perfect figure for this squad, not only adding extra experience, but also some extra 1v1 defensive ability.

The ex-Chelsea star who's outshining James & Guston

Chelsea sold Ola Aina to Italian club, Torino, back in 2019, allowing the fullback to leave for a fee of around £8.7m.

Six years later, the 28-year-old finds himself playing for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, with his side currently sitting third in the league, and his performances are playing a massive part in this.

When comparing Aina to James and Gusto this season, you can see the 28-year-old offers even stronger defensive qualities with ball recoveries and interceptions, but can also get forward and put dangerous crosses into the box, making 0.29 crosses into the penalty area per 90.

Sky Sports’ Dougie Critchley labelled Aina as “exceptional” back in December, alluding to many other Forest players getting the credit, but not enough being shown to the full-back. According to former Nigeria international and Wigan Athletic striker, Julius Efosa Aghahowa, he’s even now “the best right-back in the Premier League”.

Aina has proven himself as a Premier League quality fullback, who offers versatility to play on both sides, can lead by example, and brings brilliant intangibles to a squad.

This could have been the exact character Chelsea needed to keep around from their own academy, especially when looking at the injury-prone nature of the super-talented James.

Pakistan team denied visas to travel to India for T20 World Cup for the Blind

“Indian team very, very disappointed they are not coming,” says president of Cricket Association for the Blind in India

PTI06-Dec-2022Pakistan’s cricket team has been denied visas to travel to India for the ongoing T20 World Cup for the Blind. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) said that the team could not get clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs in India.”This unfortunate incident has left the Pakistan blind cricket team in the lurch,” the PBCC said. “It was highly likely that Pakistan and India would have locked horns in the final of ongoing World Cup and considering the current form of the Green Shirts, Pakistan had high chances to win the World Cup.”The PBCC said “it strongly condemns this discriminating act of India as sports should be above regional politics”.”Our counterpart in India pleaded with their government for Pakistan’s clearance but nothing was heard,” the statement said. “This discriminating act will have serious consequences on global blind cricket as we at the World Blind Cricket will take stern action against them and may not allow India to host future international events.””Indian team very, very disappointed they are not coming”

Pakistan were originally scheduled to play against India on Wednesday and the game could yet be rescheduled to December 9 or December 11, subject to visa clearance.Apart from India, the remaining participating teams are Bangladesh, Australia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and South Africa. The current tournament is being played from December 5 to 17, in Faridabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Indore and Bengaluru, where the final will be held.

Better than Chalobah: Chelsea confident they will sign £70m star

Chelsea battled hard to secure a 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Monday night to move up to fourth in the division.

The Blues are fighting to land a place in the Champions League for the 2025/26 campaign and took another step towards achieving that goal with their victory over Wolves.

Away from the goalscorers, centre-back Trevoh Chalobah caught the eye with a strong performance on his return to the club after a loan spell with Crystal Palace in the first-half of the season.

The academy graduate won six of his eight duels and made three interceptions on the night, but Chelsea are now reportedly eyeing a player in his position who could be even better for Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea confident of signing new centre-back

According to GIVEMESPORT, the Premier League giants are confident that they will get a deal over the line for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

The report claims that the Blues are ‘adamant’ that they will eventually win the race to sign the England international, even if they have to wait until the summer to do it because Palace are unwilling to cash in on him midseason.

It states that the Eagles value the central defender at around £70m and that Chelsea believe Guehi is interested in returning to Stamford Bridge for a second spell at the club.

GIVEMESPORT adds that the player’s interest in making the move could give the Blues an advantage in the race to sign him, which may be why they are so confident that a deal will be done.

If Chelsea do eventually win the race for Guehi’s signature then it could be a fantastic piece of business for Maresca, as he could come in as an instant upgrade on Chalobah.

Why Guehi could be an upgrade on Chalobah

The two centre-backs, of course, spent the first half of this season playing in the same defensive unit for Palace and it was the England international who caught the eye with his impressive performances.

It is worth noting that Guehi has already been capped 22 times by England at international level, whilst Chalobah is yet to make his senior bow, which suggests that Gareth Southgate viewed the former as the better option out of the two in recent years.

Their respective performances in the Premier League for Palace this season back up that opinion, as the Eagles captain has been far more dominant from a defensive perspective.

As you can see in the table above, Chalobah has made more defensive interventions per game but that has opened him up to being dribbled past twice as often, whilst losing more of his duels on the ground and in the air.

These statistics suggest that Guehi, once dubbed “exceptional” by Southgate, is harder for opposition players to beat, in dribbles and in duels, and that could make him even more solid at the back for Chelsea in comparison to his former teammate.

Therefore, Maresca should be delighted that the Blues are confident of getting a deal over the line for the Palace star, because he could come in and immediately improve the team with his dominant defensive play.
