Eberechi Eze reacted with a sheepish grin and quickly moved on when asked about his failed move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, after the Arsenal star and boyhood Gunners fan scored a stunning hat-trick in a 4-1 demolition of Spurs at the Emirates. Eze came close to completing a move to Arsenal's biggest rivals in the summer, before a late hijack saw the former Crystal Palace star complete his dream £67.5million ($88m) transfer.

  Eze was understandably reluctant to answer when asked by Sky Sports at full-time about the possibility that he may have been wearing different colours for Sunday’s North London Derby if things had gone differently.

  The 27-year-old England international completed his dream move to his boyhood club in August and put in the performance of a lifetime as he scored past arch-rivals three times to earn the derby day match ball, reaching five goals for his new club in the process.

  Bagging his side’s second goal in controversial circumstances just before half-time, Eze struck two goals from the edge of the box in the second period to secure a huge victory for Arsenal, which puts the Gunners six points clear at the top of the Premier League table – with second-placed Chelsea to come next weekend at Stamford Bridge.

  “It feels special, man. I’m grateful again, this is what I pray for. I prayed for it today, a hat-trick, and I got it today so I’m grateful to God.”

  “Just the timing of it, it was the right time,” he continued. “Honestly, it’s just special, all of them are good for me, because I know that I’ve been working on the process to get in those positions, so it’s worked out.”

  On scoring his first professional hat-trick, he added: “Yeah, it is. Special one. As I say, words can’t explain this one today.”

This weekend might be the first one in a long time that West Ham United fans are actually looking forward to.

The East Londoners have been subjected to some terrible football and even worse results over the last year or so, but finally, the London Stadium was treated to an impressive win over Newcastle United last week.

It was Nuno Espírito Santo’s first win in charge, but he’s not got an altogether different challenge to face in Scott Parker’s Burnley.

The Clarets’ manager is still a firm fan favourite among West Ham fans, and it could be argued that one of their current players is now emulating him – and no, it’s not Freddie Potts.

Moreover, the last five meetings between the two teams have been more fruitful for the Irons, with them winning twice and sharing the spoils three times.

Their last meeting was a Premier League match on March 10th, 2024.

The game ended 2-2 courtesy of goals from Lucas Paqueta, Danny Ings, David Datro Fofana, and an own goal from Dinos Mavropanos.

While another draw wouldn’t be the end of the world, Nuno and Co. will be looking to make the most of last weekend’s win and go on something of a run.

While the whole team will have to play their part to make that happen, much of the goalscoring burden will fall on the player who’s something of a modern-day Parker for West Ham.

Parker joined West Ham from the Toon in the summer of 2007, and while he had to deal with a number of injuries early on, he established himself as one of the team’s most important players.

In fact, he was so crucial that he was named Hammer of the Year for three consecutive seasons and was even named England’s Player of the Year in 2011.

Unfortunately, when the Irons were relegated at the end of the 11/12 season, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur to keep his place in the national side.

Now, when it comes to a modern player who could be talked about in a similar way, there is only one who comes to mind: Jarrod Bowen.

Yes, he plays in an entirely different position, but over the last few years, he has been just as, if not more, important to the club.

For example, in 249 appearances, totalling 19881 minutes, the incredible “game changer,” as dubbed by journalist Roshane Thomas, has scored 77 goals and provided 53 assists.

That comes out to a staggering average of a goal involvement every 1.91 games, or every 152.93 minutes, over a period of more than five years.

On top of that, he has also taken the responsibility of the captaincy, which, as things stand, must be a particularly heavy burden.

Finally, not only has he been a constant source of goals and assists for the club, but he is also the scorer of the goal that secured them their first European trophy.

Toni Kroos admits he understands the criticism over his former Real Madrid team-mate Vinicius Jr’s behaviour on the pitch, saying the forward’s hot-headed antics can be “annoying”. The Germany icon has weighed in on the conversation surrounding the winger, who issued an apology to Los Blancos’ supporters after reacting angrily to being substituted in last month’s El Clasico with Barcelona.

Brazil star Vinicius was seething after being taken off in the first Clasico of the 2025-26 season on 26 October. The 25-year-old shouted “always me” towards Real manager Xabi Alonso following his withdrawal after 72 minutes, before adding “I'm leaving the team, it's better if I leave, I'm leaving.”

Vinicius expressed his frustration by going straight past Alonso and down the tunnel, only to return to the bench to watch his side secure a 2-1 victory over fierce rivals Barcelona. He then attempted to confront Blaugrana winger Lamine Yamal in ugly post-match scenes at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, Vinicius was full of remorse for his actions, taking to social media to issue an apology to Real supporters. Three days after the match, he wrote on X: “Today I want to apologise to all the Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clasico.

"Just as I have already done in person during today's training, I also want to apologise again to my team-mates, the club, and the president.

“Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive character stems from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents.”

However, Vinicius’ apology did not mention Real boss Alonso, whom he is reported to have a strained relationship with.

While the debate continues to swirl regarding Vinicius’ behaviour against Barcelona, former Real midfielder Kroos has since revealed he tried to keep the former Flamengo ace in check when they were team-mates, owing to a feeling that his conduct was causing the club to “suffer”.

In quotes carried by Spanish publication the 35-year-old said at The Icon League, a Germany-based five-a-side football tournament he co-founded: “At that time, I told him many times that he’d had enough, because you get the feeling that, due to his behaviour, the team ends up suffering. It's understandable that he might annoy an opponent, a referee, or the crowd.

“As a team, you get the impression that everything is working against the group because of what's happening around him. I've tried many times to calm him down on the pitch, especially so he wouldn't lose his composure, because sometimes that happened. I always told him, 'You're so good you don't need all that’.”

In a legendary 10-year spell with Real, Kroos lifted 22 trophies including five Champions League titles with the Spanish heavyweights, making 465 appearances in all competitions. He retired from professional football after representing Germany – with whom he won the World Cup in 2014 – at Euro 2024, with Julian Nagelsmann’s side losing to eventual winners Spain in the quarter-finals.

There are plenty of reasons for Chelsea fans to be very optimistic at the moment.

Yes, the performances have been a little inconsistent, and the transfers haven’t all worked out, but Enzo Maresca has a squad full of incredible players.

For example, Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, and even Reece James, now that he has overcome his injury problems, can all be counted among the best in the world in their respective positions.

Moreover, there is now another gem in the side who could surpass them all to become the outright best in the world.

So, the first thing to say is that nobody worth listening to has ever questioned James’ innate ability, nor his place among the best full-backs in world football on that ability alone.

However, as the saying goes, availability is the best ability, and for a significant portion of the last few years, that has been something that has gone against him.

For example, while he managed to make 26 league appearances in the 21/22 season, he made just 45 over the following three campaigns.

This inability to remain fit and make a significant number of appearances every year was something often held against him when it came down to conversations over who the best right-back was in the country.

However, so far this season has been a different story entirely, as he has not missed a single match due to injury and has played all 11 league games, seven from the start.

In addition to simply being present, the Englishman has also once again reminded rival fans that, at his best, he is capable of things most full-backs couldn’t even dream of doing.

For example, he already has three goal involvements to his name, along with some seriously impressive underlying numbers.

According to FBref, he ranks in the top 1% of full-backs for total passing distance, expected assists, passes into the final third and interceptions, the top 4% for goals plus assists and more, all per 90.

In all, now that he’s staying fit, it’s undeniable that James is one of the best right-backs in the world, and if that isn’t enough, another young talent Chelsea have signed looks like he could become one of the best players in the world outright.

The likes of Caicedo and Palmer might be pushing for the title of best in the world, but based on raw talent and what those in the know say about him, Dastan Satpayev could surpass both.

Chelsea signed the incredibly exciting prospect from the Kazakhstani side Kairat Almaty in February of this year for a fee of around €4m, which is about £3.5m.

Yet, as he’s still just 17 years old, he is not allowed to join up with the club until next season.

The Kazakh wonderkid may not be particularly well-known to fans in England, but he is regarded by many as a seriously significant prospect.

For example, one analyst with extensive knowledge of Kazakhstani football has been bold enough to describe the teenager as “a future Ballon d’Or winner.”

Yet, if that wasn’t encouraging enough, he has also been dubbed “a future rival to Lamine Yamal,” or in other words, someone who will vie for the title of the world’s best as he gets older.

With that said, what about him has people so excited? First of all, despite turning 17 in the summer, the dynamic forward made 29 first-team appearances last season, totalling 2081 minutes, in which he scored 15 goals and provided seven assists.

That comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.31 games, or every 94.59 minutes, which would be an incredible rate of return for a seasoned veteran.

Then, this season he has already made 11 appearances in the Champions League, seven of which were in the qualifying rounds and the other four in the competition proper.

In other words, the youngster is not only producing in the league but is also gaining a tremendous amount of experience in club football’s biggest competition.

Ultimately, it is early on in his career, but Satpayev is already looking like an excellent player, and if those in the know are right, he could become the world’s best at Chelsea.

New York Mets TV play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen is one of the best in the game because he's never afraid to share how he feels about a moment or play. That was on display during New York's 10-5 win over Miami on Tuesday when he lit into Marlins manager Clayton McCullough over a mind-boggling move during Pete Alonso's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Marlins intentionally walked Juan Soto to load the bases for Alonso in a one-run game. That move normally would be made to set up a possible double play and is something that has been done by managers since basically the start of baseball.

McCullough, however, decided to go a different route as he brought his infield in which, with one out, didn't make any sense to Cohen.

"And again they bring the infield in with the bases load and one out against Alonso," Cohen said. "What is going on? Why would they set up the double play and then not play for the double play? Something is eschew."

The Marlins also brought in their outfield and then watched as Alonso crushed a double to left center that emptied the bases.

Cohen was in disbelief after that, saying: "You see how shallow the center fielder was playing against Pete Alonso? What are you doing?"

Not the best strategy.

The Marlins dropped to 5-6 with the loss. The Mets are now 8-3.

Spring training is in its final days, which means so too is the ABS challenge system. Major League Baseball's first experiment with the automated strike zone and accompanying challenges has led to plenty of entertaining moments over the last month. On Tuesday, New York Yankees outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. offered up perhaps the most brash, confident challenge we've seen yet.

The Yankees were taking on the Boston Red Sox and Chisholm was facing a full count with a man on first and zero outs. The umpire called a low strike to punch him out and Chisholm, with zero hesitation, called for a challenge.

Not only that, but Chisholm refused to even entertain the possibility he was wrong and began to trot towards first base as the challenge unfolded. He was proven correct and took his base as the call changed to a walk.

While this would have been funnier if he was proven wrong, it's an amusing sequence from Chisholm. He finished the day with that one walk in two at-bats and a run as the Yankees tied the Red Sox at four apiece.

Padikkal, who made 150 for India A against Australia A in the first four-day game in Lucknow, has played two Tests so far. He was part of the Perth Test against Australia last year, when he made scores of 0 and 25 from No. 3.Reddy was also part of that series, as well as the England Tests that followed, and has played a total of seven Tests so far. Reddy, who was supposed to make a comeback from the knee injury he suffered in England in the first four-day game against Australia A, did not make the XI. Both players are in the squad for the second four-day game which begins on Tuesday.The India-West Indies Tests are part of the World Test Championship (WTC). India are currently third on the WTC table, after drawing the five-match England series 2-2. West Indies are sixth after three losses in three games.
