Liverpool agree deadline day deal to sign 25 y/o international "absolute gem"

Liverpool have now reportedly reached an agreement over the signing of a player who has been hailed as an “absolute gem”, and he is set to join alongside Alexander Isak.

Liverpool to complete Alexander Isak signing

Isak has been the Reds’ biggest transfer target since they brought in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, and he is now joining the Premier League champions after undergoing a medical.

It is another huge moment in Liverpool’s summer, with the Swede breaking the British transfer record that was only set by Wirtz recently, with many feeling that he could be another game-changing addition for Arne Slot’s side.

Isak is arguably among the best strikers in the world currently, having scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies, and he has the ability to turn the Reds into an even greater force than they already are.

Now, it’s a case of Liverpool sealing the signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace and a massive update has emerged regarding their pursuit of him.

Marc Guehi undergoing Liverpool medical in London

According to Paul Gorst, Liverpool have now reached an agreement with the Eagles over the signing of Guehi, in their second significant piece of business of the day, with the player already undergoing a medical.

David Ornstein has since added the deal is worth £35m with a five-year contract already agreed.

This has been a deadline day to treasure for Liverpool, with Guehi and Isak strengthening Slot’s squad significantly, at a point when they are already sitting top of the Premier League table. The 25-year-old is arguably one of the best central defenders in the division, becoming a leader for Palace and also pushing to be the first defender on England’s team sheet heading into the 2026 World Cup next summer.

Guehi is a calm figure who combines technical ability and a strong reading of the game, with former Liverpool coach Michael Beale once heaping praise on him.

“He shows a huge amount of confidence to play on the left side and his technical upbringing from Chelsea means he can use his left foot, albeit he is dominant on his right foot. When you see the teams line up, he’s not the biggest centre-back but he has a huge leap. “Quietly people are realising we have an absolute gem in him.”

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate were in need of sterner competition for the rest of this season, following the departure of Jarell Quansah to Leverkusen, and Guehi can push for a regular starting berth from the off.

Crystal Palace made club-record £37m bid for "commanding" Guehi replacement

Crystal Palace submitted a club-record bid for a Marc Guehi replacement, which was knocked back by his club, it has been revealed.

Guehi stays at Selhurst Park after crazy deadline day

Guehi looked poised to move to Anfield on transfer deadline day, with Liverpool agreeing a fee for the centre-back, but the move fell through, given that Palace weren’t able to bring in adequate cover.

There have been widespread reports suggesting Oliver Glasner threatened to resign if the captain was sold, which may have played a big part in Steve Parish’s decision-making, with the chairman clearly keen to retain his FA Cup-winning manager.

It seems as though things would’ve panned out differently if a replacement had been brought in for the 25-year-old, and it wasn’t for a lack of trying, with the Eagles making a deadline day move for Brighton & Hove Albion defender Igor Julio on loan.

According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), another centre-back target was in Crystal Palace’s sights, with it being revealed they made an offer of around €42m (£37m) for Inter Milan’s Yann Bisseck.

Yann Bisseck and Inter Milan celebrate reaching the Champions League final.

However, the Serie A club blocked a move, as they didn’t feel the bid was high enough, given the 24-year-old’s age and versatility, while he also displayed little desire to complete a move to Selhurst Park.

Palace clearly hold Bisseck in high regard, given that he would’ve been their club-record signing if the £37m offer was accepted, eclipsing the £32m fee paid for Christian Benteke in 2016, but in some ways, it is a bonus they will now have their captain for the rest of the campaign.

Glasner handed Crystal Palace exit route after tense deadline day stand off

A concern for the Eagles.

ByTom Cunningham Sep 2, 2025 "Commanding" Bisseck could've been ideal Guehi heir

Indeed, it is a bonus to retain the services of Guehi until January at the very least, with the England international putting in a top performance last time out, scoring a wonder goal and helping his side keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win at Aston Villa.

However, it is also a blow that Palace are now set to miss out on a transfer fee, with the former Chelsea man now able to leave on a free contract at the end of the campaign, and he is clearly frustrated the deal fell through.

If the offer for Bisseck had been accepted, Palace might not be in this situation, given that the German could’ve been an ideal replacement, having been lauded as a “commanding” centre-back by scout Ben Mattinson.

Moreover, the Inter defender has outperformed Guehi in some key defensive metrics over the past year, while he is also more comfortable in possession of the ball.

Harry Kane told the 'obvious choice' he should make next summer as rumours of Bayern Munich exit heat up amid Tottenham return links

Harry Kane has been informed of the “obvious choice” he should make in the summer of 2026 if exit doors do swing open at Bayern Munich. The former Tottenham striker has seen a return to the Premier League speculated on. There is said to be a clause in his contract that could be triggered in 2026, with leading sides in England keeping a close eye on his situation.

GettyKane lifted trophy curse with Bayern

Kane, who is the all-time leading goalscorer for Spurs and the Three Lions, has been in Germany since 2023. He opted to step out of his comfort zone at that point and take on a new challenge. A move to the Allianz Arena was made with the intention of lifting a much-publicised trophy curse. Kane was able to achieve that when becoming a Bundesliga title winner in 2024-25.

He has gone on to savour Supercup success with Bayern and maintained remarkable individual standards. His stunning strike rate in Bavaria, which includes several hat-tricks, currently stands at 98 goals through 103 appearances in all competitions. He has won the Bundesliga Golden Boot in both of his seasons in the German top-flight and is already up to 13 efforts this term – with praise raining down on the prolific 32-year-old.

AdvertisementPremier League return: What next for Kane?

Bayern are understandably reluctant to part with their fearsome No.9 and have him tied to a deal through to 2027. There are said to be exit clauses in that contract, though, which mean Kane may be on the move again after captaining England at next summer’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Former Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham can see his fellow frontman heading home and trying to chase down Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals record. Sheringham told : “It’ll be interesting if Harry Kane returns to England. Football can change very quickly, so to say where he could go next at the season is anyone’s guess. Despite his age, he’d still be one of the most sought-after players in world football if he was to become available.

“The way it’s looking for Manchester United, they still could do with a player like him, but I think it’s unlikely that they would get him. For me, Tottenham would be the obvious choice. I couldn’t see why the club wouldn’t want him back if that became a possibility and I’m sure the Spurs supporters would welcome him back with open arms.”

Getty Images SportWhat does success look like for Frank at Spurs?

Spurs included an option in Kane’s sale to Bayern that allows them to match any bid for the England skipper. They may decide to make a move as Thomas Frank could do with a proven goalscorer to lead the line in north London.

Sheringham added on the progress being made at Tottenham since replacing Europa League-winning coach Ange Postecoglou with Danish tactician Frank: “Thomas Frank has been very good at Tottenham so far; he’s had a great start in the dugout. They’re third in the league after five games and on the board in the Champions League which is an encouraging start. I like his style of play and tactics, it’s good to watch and they’re winning games. Hopefully, they can keep that level of form up and go far in competitions this season.

“They look a lot more solid defensively, which needed improving on last season. The new signings look to be gelling well with the squad, and they’ve got better depth this time around which should stand them in better stead this time.

“That said, we will have to wait and see if it’s any better than Ange Postecoglou winning a trophy. Many criticised the way that he set his teams up, but he was the only manager that finally delivered a trophy in the end, so I think we need to see Thomas Frank do the same thing.”

Next up: Tottenham & Bayern fixtures

Spurs, who saw off Doncaster last time out to keep themselves in contention for Carabao Cup honours, will be back in Premier League action on Saturday when playing host to Wolves. Kane, meanwhile, will be looking to help Bayern maintain their perfect start to the 2025-26 campaign when they face Werder Bremen on Friday.

Frank approves Tottenham move for "world-class" £60m Savinho alternative

Tottenham Hotspur have now launched a move for a “world-class” Savinho alternative, having received the green light from Thomas Frank, according to a report.

Spurs keen on new winger after Son departure

With Son Heung-min completing a move to LAFC earlier this month, it is now imperative that Tottenham sign a new winger before the transfer deadline, and Manchester City’s Savinho has emerged as one of their major targets.

Interestingly, there is now a feeling that a deal could be possible, despite Man City’s reluctance to sanction a departure, with Fabrizio Romano revealing the Brazilian is eager to make the move to north London.

However, amid widespread reports suggesting City could look to hold out for a huge fee, there may be a temptation to move on to alternative targets, and Spurs have now set their sights on a La Liga winger.

Indeed, according to a report from Spain, Tottenham have now launched a move for Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo, having received the green light to pursue the Japanese winger from Frank.

Kubo is now on the Lilywhites’ ‘priority list’, with Frank identifying the need to bring in a winger with good pace and vision, and there is a feeling the Sociedad star would be a perfect fit, although a deal could be on the expensive side.

Given that the 24-year-old is one of the Spanish club’s most important players, they are unwilling to sanction a departure for less than €70m (£60m), but Spurs remain undeterred, and they are seriously considering paying the asking price.

"World-class" Kubo could be ideal Savinho alternative

With City seemingly playing hardball over Savinho, it would make sense for Frank to pursue an alternative option, and the Japan international has proven he could take Tottenham’s attack to the next level.

Takefusa Kubo scores for Japan

Perhaps most notably, the Sociedad star has received very high praise from former Barcelona manager Xavi in the past, who said: “(Takefusa) Kubo is a world class footballer. Not just with the ball, but also without it.”

The Kawasaki-born winger has also impressed in La Liga over a sustained time period, with his best return for Sociedad coming in the 2022-23 campaign.

There may be some concerns that Kubo wasn’t exactly prolific last season, but as pointed out by Xavi, the 44-time Japan international also influences the game when out of possession, meaning he could be a solid alternative to Savinho.

Weekly wages: Manchester United FC 2025/26 highest-paid players

Manchester United’s wage bill is a site to behold, with the Red Devils forking out more than £3m a week on first-team salaires.

The Red Devils currently have a whopping annual payroll of £158,700,000, but, despite this being such a huge number, it’s actually quite a bit less than it was in the previous campaign.

A number of recent exits helped the Manchester club’s cause, including selling Alejandro Garnacho and Antony, loans for Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, whereas Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen were released.

With that being said, we at Football FanCast have ranked every Manchester United player in the first-team squad in order from highest to lowest in terms of wages for the 2025-26 season, with the help of Capology.

Here's a detailed look at the top 10 Man Utd earners… 10 Noussair Mazraoui £135,000 per week

Noussair Mazraoui was one of many who made the move to Old Trafford in 2024, arriving from Bayern Munich after the Red Devils sold Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham.

The Morocco international penned a four-year deal with Man Utd, who will hope he can go on to star over the coming years.

9 Bryan Mbeumo £150,000 per week

Man Utd were able to offer attacker Bryan Mbeumo a big salary after making the Cameroon international a top transfer target.

The former Brentford ace cost the Red Devils more than £70m with add-ons included over the summer and penned a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

8 Luke Shaw £150,000 per week

Luke Shaw

Left-back Luke Shaw has now been a Red Devils player for 10 years and is closing in on 300 appearances for the club.

The England international may have had several injury struggles during his time as a Man Utd player, but he is still under contract until 2027.

7 Mason Mount £150,000 per week

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount

Man Utd signed Mason Mount from Chelsea in a £60m deal in 2023, despite the Englishman having just 12 months remaining on his Stamford Bridge deal at the time.

Unfortunately, Mount missed large parts of his first season through injury, so in hindsight, the Red Devils would have been better off waiting for the player to become a free agent instead of splashing the cash.

6 Benjamin Sesko £160,000 per week

Benjamin Sesko is the latest man set to be tasked with firing Man Utd to glory, with the centre-forward choosing Old Trafford over Newcastle.

The Red Devils paid RB Leipzig an initial £66m for the towering striker, who is set to earn more than £40m in his five years with United.

5 Matheus Cunha £180,000 per week

Matheus Cunha took Man Utd’s famous number 10 shirt from Marcus Rashford after his big-money move from Wolves.

Ruben Amorim’s first summer signing at Old Trafford, Cunha was handed a five-year deal worth more than £9m a season.

4 Harry Maguire £190,000 per week

Former club captain Harry Maguire has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford on numerous occasions in recent years but remains a big Red Devils earner.

His near £10m a-year contract is set to expire in 2026, so it’ll be interesting to see if the club offer him new terms over the coming months.

3 Matthijs de Ligt £195,000 per week

Matthijs de Ligt is under contract with United until 2029, and after numeorus departues, is now the club’s third highest earner.

Former boss Erik ten Hag worked with De Ligt at Ajax previously, but it was Juventus who sold the centre-back to Man Utd in 2024, with the Dutch star penning a five-year deal.

2 Bruno Fernandes £300,000 per week

Bruno Fernandes was made Man Utd captain back in 2023, and in recent years, the midfielder has arguably been the only real marquee signing who has lived up to the hype.

The Portugal international turned down a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2025 and is under contract until 2027.

1 Casemiro £350,000 per week

The biggest earner at Old Trafford is Casemiro, who has been picking up £350,000 per week since joining from Real Madrid in 2022.

The Brazilian cost the Red Devils £50m, however, the player has come in for criticism in the last 12 months and was again linked with an exit in the summer.

DC have won half their games so far whereas Giants have points from just one out of three, and even though the sample sizes are small, both teams have shown holes in their performances which they will hope don’t get compounded as the season progresses.DC, to start with, have had strong powerplays thanks to their prolific opening pair of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma. It’s in the middle overs (7-16) where they have failed to take off from the platform set for the middle order. DC have not only lost the most wickets (18) in that stage, they have also been the slowest (6.67) in those 10 overs that has led to them being bowled out twice already.Related

In their last game, which they lost to UP Warriorz, DC’s all-international bowling attack also leaked 12 wides, something they “are looking to really tighten up,” according to head coach Jonathan Batty.Giants, contrastingly, have had to bank on their middle order despite having two reputed international names in Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney at the top. Giants have managed to score at just run a ball in the powerplay, with Wolvaardt striking at 80 and Mooney at 104.16, which has mounted pressure on the prolific Ashleigh Gardner and hard-hitting Deandra Dottin. Giants could not only do with a quicker start against arguably the most potent attack in the league, but they would also love for some runs from their Indian contingent of D Hemalatha and Simran Sheikh, who have scored just 27 runs off 36 balls together this season. What will perhaps boost their confidence is that DC are having their worst season with the ball so far in the powerplay, leaking 8.41 runs an over compared to 6.51 last year and 5.74 the in 2023.Team news and likely XIsDespite coming on the back of a loss, DC have a solid XI and may not feel the need to tinker unless they want to bring in left-arm spinner Radha Yadav for offspinner Minnu Mani as Giants have only one left-hand batter in their top seven.Delhi Capitals (probable): 1 Meg Lanning (capt), 2 Shafali Verma, 3 Jemimah Rodrigues, 4 Marizanne Kapp, 5 Annabel Sutherland, 6 Sarah Bryce (wk), 7 Niki Prasad, 8 Jess Jonassen, 9 Shikha Pandey, 10 Arundhati Reddy, 11 Minnu Mani/Radha YadavIf Giants want to replace Hemalatha at No. 3, their only Indian option is Bharti Fulmali.Gujarat Giants (probable): 1 Laura Wolvaardt, 2 Beth Mooney (wk), 3 Dayalan Hemalatha/Bharti Fulmali, 4 Ashleigh Gardner (capt), 5 Harleen Deol, 6 Deandra Dottin, 7 Simran Shaikh, 8 Kashvee Gautam, 9 Tanuja Kanwar, 10 Sayali Satghare, 11 Priya MishraPlayers to watch: Meg Lanning and Priya MishraClosing in on 800 runs, Meg Lanning is the most prolific batter in WPL, but she has looked far from her best this season. Chelsea now readying £43m offer for Real Madrid target to replace Colwill

Chelsea are now preparing a £43m offer for a “world-class” Real Madrid target, who could be brought in as a replacement for Levi Colwill, according to a report.

Blues readying bid for centre-back after Colwill blow

There were always concerns that competing in the Club World Cup may have a negative knock-on effect going into the new season, and the Blues have already suffered a major injury blow, with Colwill set to miss most of the campaign due to an ACL injury.

Since then, Enzo Maresca has hinted that another centre-back could be brought in to account for the loss of the 22-year-old, with the manager saying: “It depends – we will wait and see.

“You know in our way, how important Levi has been. I spoke with him yesterday and I told him that if we achieve what we achieved last year, it is also because of him – and he was a main player for us.”

It has since been revealed that the west Londoners are expected to make a bid for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo imminently, but a Premier League centre-back has also now entered the frame as a potential option…

That is according to reports in Spain, which state Chelsea are now preparing a €50m (£43m) offer for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, who is also being targeted by Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid.

Madrid are confident about securing Konate’s signature on a free transfer next summer, upon the expiration of his contract, but the Blues have now entered the race, and they are willing to pay the exact amount Liverpool are looking for.

It's not Palmer: PSG now submit £130m offer for "unbelievable" Chelsea star

Paris Saint-Germain have launched a bid for one of the Blues’ key players.

ByDominic Lund Aug 11, 2025

At present, however, a move to Real Madrid is still the most likely outcome, given that the Reds are reluctant to strengthen one of their direct Premier League rivals, and the player himself is leaning towards a move to the Santiago Bernabéu.

"World-class" Konate would be major coup for Chelsea

In truth, it seems unlikely that the Blues will be able to get a deal done, considering the French defender has no reason to leave the reigning Premier League champions, and Liverpool are hesitant to let him move to Stamford Bridge.

However, the Reds are at risk of losing the 26-year-old on a free transfer if they don’t cash-in this summer, which means it could be tempting to sanction a sale, and he could be a fantastic acquisition for the Blues.

The France international played a major role in Liverpool’s 2024-25 Premier League title triumph, making 31 appearances, and journalist David Lynch believes he is now “world-class”.

Konate is clearly entering the prime of his career, and it would be a major coup if Chelsea were able to get a deal done, but it seems extremely unlikely that Arne Slot’s side will agree to a sale, given that they are already light on centre-back options.

Celtic now in talks to sign £10m forward once dubbed the 'new Van Basten'

With Adam Idah set to join Swansea City, Celtic have now reportedly opened talks to sign a £10m striker who was once backed to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Marco van Basten.

Adam Idah set to join Swansea

After a 50-minute cameo to forget against Kairat in the Champions League, Idah has been shown the door by Celtic in ruthless fashion. Returning to English football just one year since swapping Norwich City for the Scottish champions in a move worth £9.5m, Idah will be desperate to put his recent Celtic form behind him back in the Championship.

The forward is set to leave with 29 goals in 76 appearances to his name, which includes a last-gasp Scottish Cup winner against Old Firm rivals Rangers in 2024. For that moment alone, some may argue that Idah proved to be worth every penny.

Ultimately, however, with Brendan Rodgers keen to bolster his side before the deadline, Idah has been shown the door. The Celtic boss told reporters when asked about potential incomings following his side’s Champions League exit in midweek: “I always think that investment is great, but it has to be a timely investment.

Better than Saracchi: Celtic in race to sign "technically gifted" £9m star

As Celtic search for a new left-back before the deadline, the Hoops should forget about Marcelo Saracchi and sign a “technically gifted” star instead.

“It has to be at the right time. I think at this moment in time, we’ve just lost a game. Like I say, this group of players have given everything. We’re obviously being limited to what we could do in the game at the moment, but like I said, they gave everything.”

At that stage, there was arguably little room to welcome further arrivals. With Idah now set to seal his exit, however, the Bhoys could welcome an instant upgrade.

Celtic in talks to sign Dolberg

According to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph, Celtic are now in talks to sign Kasper Dolberg from Anderlecht this week. The 27-year-old forward is reportedly valued at £10m – a similar price that the Bhoys initially paid for Idah last summer – and negotiations are underway.

The Dolberg name is one that many will remember from several years ago. The Dane was the supposed to be the next best thing at Ajax. He was billed as football’s latest wonderkid. His own father even went as far as to compare him with the legendary Van Basten, whilst the Ajax scout who discovered Dolberg dubbed him an “extraordinary talent”, but things never quite worked out as planned.

That said, whilst the Dane is not among the world’s best players like many expected him to be, he still has a knack for goals and has already netted five in just eight games this season. And it is that knack for goals which should see Celtic push all the way for his signature.
