Liverpool: Fans demand that James Milner is offered a new deal

Liverpool fans have been pleaded for James Milner to be handed an extension to his current contract.

The 33-year-old was a critical part of the Reds’ first Champions League win in 14 years and their sixth European crown of the club’s history.

Milner made the move to Anfield from Manchester City on a free transfer under the Brendan Rodgers regime and has become of one Jurgen Klopp’s most prized assets.

He recently received praise from former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, who said that he was the “hardest” player that he ever faced. The former England international has now clocked up 193 appearances for the Reds, scoring 25 goals and providing 39 assists during that time.

Supporters begged the club to offer Milner a new deal and made their feelings clear on social media.

Here you will find some of the best comments from Liverpool fans:

Everton fans weren’t happy at half-time against Tottenham

Everton fans on Twitter made their feelings very clear after watching the first half of their game against Tottenham.

You’ve got to say that the first 45 minutes at Goodison Park were extremely dull, but fortunately, the game picked up a little bit in the second half.

You know a game is boring when the BBC say there is not much to report at half-time, and the reaction from the fans at the interval tells you all you need to know.

It’s bad enough that the Toffees are finding it hard to pick up any points, but it’s even worse when the football on show is so uninspiring.

Luckily, the game ignited in the second half with two goals and a grandstand finish that saw the Toffees pushing the London club to the limit.

It certainly seems as if these fans spoke too soon when calling the game boring, but after that first-half performance, you can hardly blame them.

Here’s what the Goodison Park faithful had to say on Twitter…

Liverpool fans discuss Grujic’s future following reported interest in Zakaria

Liverpool reportedly want to sign Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria, according to Sky Deutschland, but some fans are worried that the interest could be a bad sign for Marko Grujic.

The midfielder is a popular man on Anfield despite making just 14 senior appearances for the club, and some supporters are hopeful of seeing him become part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans when he returns from his loan spell at Hertha Berlin.

Not everyone shares the concern, though, as they believe there is space in the squad for both players due to the varying roles they fulfil, whilst James Milner’s future also hasn’t been decided, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Zakaria could be the preferred option of Klopp, however.

He is already more experienced than Grujic with 24 caps for Switzerland, despite the fact he is a year younger, and has a better WhoScored average rating in the league than the Reds’ player, with 7.36 compared to 6.94.

Here is how Liverpool fans have responding to the latest rumour, with Grujic at the forefront of their thoughts…

Spurs fans hail Dele Alli after equaliser against Watford

Tottenham Hotspur fans have hailed Dele Alli after the midfielder rescued his side a point against Watford on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder scored in the 86th minute to salvage a draw for Mauricio Pochettino’s men in north London against the team that are currently rooted to the bottom of the league.

Indeed, Abdoulaye Doucoure’s goal gave Watford hope of claiming their first win of the season but Alli was able to net late on, as he pounced on a defensive mix-up to beat Ben Foster and tuck the ball home.

There was some controversy over the goal, however, with VAR checking to see if the 23-year-old had handled the ball in the build-up.

The technology eventually gave the goal and Spurs claimed what could be a valuable point as the season progresses.

And fans have taken to Twitter to hail the goalscorer, who was actually left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the games against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, having struggled for form throughout the campaign. Indeed, Saturday’s strike was his first of the season.

Liverpool target Fabian Ruiz could be the midfield alternative they need

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Liverpool are interested in Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.

What’s the latest?

The midfielder signed for Carlo Ancelotti’s side last summer and his performances have reportedly attracted the interest of the Reds as well as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

He has made 42 appearances for Napoli, scoring seven goals and assisting three, and has impressed at international level for Spain’s Under-21s, being named the Player of the Tournament for the U21 European Championship this summer.

Ancelotti has described the 22-year-old as having “great talent”, with the potential for him to develop further, and Anfield could be a good place for him to learn under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool are not short of central midfielders, boasting seven senior players currently in the ranks, but with the futures of James Milner and Adam Lallana looking uncertain – both have contracts that expire at the end of the season – there could be a space in the squad for a midfield addition by next summer.

Is he what Liverpool need?

Fabian possesses good technical ability and an eye for a pass, as evidenced by his 91.2% pass success rate for Napoli, and the 23-year-old would provide Klopp with an alternative to what he already has.

One area the current midfield is lacking is in its productivity, with Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson amassing a combined total of seven goals and eight assists in the last campaign.

Ruiz, on the other hand, contributed to nine Serie A goals single-handed last season, while he provided two goals and two assists for Spain’s U21s during the summer.

The Spaniard has proved he has an eye for goal and also made an average of 2.3 key passes for Napoli in Serie A last season, once again highlighting his creativity alongside 1.3 dribbles and 1.9 shots. Those returns are all higher than what the aforementioned trio averaged in the Premier League last season.

If he can adjust to the Premier League he should prove to be an effective alternative for the Reds in the engine room, offering an extra dose of offensive intent.

Manchester United’s nightmare with Alexis Sanchez is finally over

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Ladies and gentlemen, Alexis Sanchez has finally left the building. The 30-year-old endured a horrific time at Manchester United since making the move from Premier League rivals Arsenal back in January 2018. The Chile international struggled hugely with form and injuries, and it was little surprise to see the Red Devils look to move him on this summer.

It may have taken a long while to do so, but Sanchez’s exit – albeit a temporary one for the time being – has finally been confirmed.

United’s pursuit of the versatile forward seemed to come as a result of wanting to get a one-up on their ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City, rather than trying to weigh up whether he would actually fit in their team. The Chilean became a poisoned chalice, and symbolised everything that has gone wrong at Old Trafford in recent seasons.

Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

On-the-pitch, Sanchez managed just five goals and nine assists in 45 appearances, and never appeared to find his place in United’s team. He was the main man at Arsenal under Arsene Wenger, but never got anywhere near that level of creative freedom at Old Trafford. Instead, the forward suffered as much as anyone from Jose Mourinho’s rigid structure and tactics.

Away from his non-existent efforts on the field, Sanchez’s reported £350k-a-week wages became a stick to beat United’s transfer policy with. Eye-watering money for someone who barely contributed.

Squad depth is understandably a major concern at Old Trafford, particularly following the departures of Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku. Some United fans were even clamouring for the former to stay at the club just to provide Solskjaer with some numbers.

But ultimately, if the Norwegian feels the side are better off without such a presence in their squad, then he has to be backed. The Red Devils desperately need everyone to be pulling in the same direction, and the end of the Sanchez nightmare may just allow them to do so.

There’s an awful long way to go yet to get back on that perch, but the club finally seems to be taking forward steps rather than backward ones.
