Please stay: Newcastle fans want Isaac Hayden to remain at club

[ad_pod ]

Isaac Hayden tried to leave Newcastle United last summer and again in the January transfer window for family reasons.

In January, the midfielder said that he hoped ‘a solution’ could be reached for him to depart the Magpies before the end of the month.

That never happened, though, and Hayden remains a Newcastle player, with his contract running until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

The Englishman has not sulked, however, far from it actually. Indeed, Hayden has been in fine form for Rafael Benitez’s side in recent weeks.

It was the midfielder’s 24th birthday on Friday and as expected, Newcastle’s official Twitter account was on hand with a special message.

Pl>ymaker FC’s Matchday with Max caught up with Jamaica’s women’s team. See what happened when he met the history makers in the video below…

That led to a number of Newcastle supporters offering their views on Hayden and the majority are keen for the 6 ft 1 ace to remain at the club this summer, if at all possible.

Newcastle United need to move on from error-prone Martin Dubravka

Rafa Benitez’s successfully managed to turn things around for Newcastle United this year.

Not only are the Magpies save from relegation, but they’re also playing good football again despite criticism of the Spaniard’s style of play in the past. However, their parties have been spoiled in the last two matches due to the disastrous showing from goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The Slovenian keeper isn’t really horrendous all the time, but his error-prone manner’s haunted both him and the Magpies as a whole in the last couple of weeks.

First, it was at Wembley, where Newcastle look set to steal a point from Tottenham Hotspur. Yet, Dubravka’s couldn’t keep Son Heung Min’s powerful shot at bay and let it glide past him too easily.

The horror show wouldn’t end there. The Magpies were cruising to a crucial 1-0 away win against Wolves when disaster struck in stoppage time. A floating cross should’ve easily been latched onto by Dubravka, but the Slovenian almost amateurishly let Willy Boly head it from the cusp of his arms.

Rafa Benitez’s side were left frustrated, as their commendable efforts were undone by two forgettable errors. Ironically, he was actually pretty good against Wolves, making five saves! While he’s a decent shot-stopper and has kept seven clean sheets this season, Dubravka’s error-prone manner cost Newcastle four points, which could’ve seen them move up to 13th place.

With Rob Elliot out and youngster Freddie Woodman as the only cover, Benitez doesn’t have many options to replace him with.

However, if Newcastle wants to maintain consistency, they need to phase out Dubravka from their team soon.

Vital Cog: Robert Snodgrass

[ad_pod ]

Despite having spent the vast majority of last season on loan with Championship club Aston Villa, Robert Snodgrass has forced his way into the first team at West Ham United this season against all odds, and has proved himself to be a vital member of Manuel Pellegrini’s first-team squad.

His role

The Chilean coach has generally deployed the 31-year-old on the right wing this season, though his versatility has also allowed him to play on the left flank, in the No. 10 role, and even in a deeper midfield berth on occasion.

Check out the below above to see football played as you’ve never seen it before… in a maze!

Part of Snodgrass’ new-found usefulness to the Hammers is founded in his ability to function as an attacking utility man.

Whilst the likes of Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautovic have earned plenty of media praise and garnered much of the attention, Snodgrass has become a vital member of the West Ham team under Pellegrini, which is mightily impressive given his career at the London Stadium appeared all but over when he was shipped off to Villa Park at the start of the previous campaign.

His importance

According to Transfermarkt’s stats, the 26-cap Scotland international has made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Irons this season, scoring four goals and registering seven assists. 24 of those outings have come in the Premier League, of which 17 have been starts, as per WhoScored.

Those numbers prove how central Snodgrass currently is in Pellegrini’s plans.

The reason for his importance becomes obvious when his creative efficiency is taken into account. As per WhoScored’s stats, Snodgrass has averaged 1.6 key passes, 1.4 successful crosses and 1.1 dribbles per game.

Whilst he keeps this up, Snodgrass will continue to have a future in Stratford.

Les Reed unearthed a rough diamond in 2017

When you have a formidable figure such as Virgil van Dijk marshalling your backline, you’d probably be forgiven for not scouring the transfer market for another centre-back.

However, when that was the case for Southampton in 2017, Vice Chairman Les Reed still decided to look under a few rocks outside Europe’s top five leagues for the next big thing.

While he didn’t find another player of Van Dijk’s ilk, Reed did unearth a rough diamond – Jan Bednarek.

The Saints eventually signed the Polish centre-back from Lech Poznan, handing them £5m for the 21-year-old’s services.

Now 23 years of age, Bednarek has proven to be an astute capture, even more so given the finances involved.

As aforesaid, the defender cost only £5m, which in itself is a bargain. However, he has also been earning just £20k-a-week during that time – we say ‘just’ as it’s nothing, although in the modern footballing era, it really isn’t much.

Bednarek arrived at St Mary’s on July 1st 2017, signing a five-year contract.

If you were to count the weeks from that date to now, the 21-cap Poland international has been at Southampton for 141 weeks, meaning that he has earned a total of £2.82m in wages.

Add that to his £5m transfer fee, and Bednarek has only cost Southampton £7.82m – a true bargain given his current status as a first-team regular.

The 23-year-old has started 27 Premier League games out of a possible 29 this term, and has made 67 appearances for the Saints in total – that means he has cost the club only £116.7k per appearance since his arrival.

At just 23 years of age, Bednarek’s best years are surely ahead of him and his value – according to Transfermarkt – stands at £13.5m, so it was a wise investment from Reed and one that looks sure to land Southampton a profit.

He is far from the finished article, but the Pole was an excellent capture in a financial sense.

Leeds United target Andy Rinomhota has received glowing endorsements

It looks like Leeds United are on a hunt for a new midfielder and according to reports coming from Football Insider, Reading’s young talent, Andy Rinomhota, is on their radar.

The now 22-year-old midfielder could reportedly even be on the table in January and failing that, in the summer transfer window.

Rinomhota seems like a suitable backup for Kalvin Phillips given Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t really have anyone in his squad who could fill in that position should his first-choice player be unavailable.

Watch Leeds United Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

Despite Phillips being considered among the best, if not the very best Championship players in his position, he will definitely need someone who can serve as a backup in the event of injury or suspension.

But who exactly is this young midfielder who’s being considered to act a relief for the Yorkshire Pirlo?

To answer that question, we sought the opinions of those who know him best…

Jaap Stam, former Reading manager

Stam worked with Rinomhota back in 2017 while he was still coaching the Royals and he knows a thing or two about the young talent.

Of course, back then the midfielder was very much just emerging from his cocoon and Stam could already see the talent that is hidden behind him.

When Rinomhota extended his contract, the manager was over the moon, showering his player with praise in the process.

Here’s what he said in full, as quoted by Berkshire Live:

“From the start of the season when he joined us in Holland for pre-season and became part of the first team squad, Andy has made a very good impression.

“He’s a box to box midfield player with a lot of quality and ability as an individual, but he also brings a lot of energy to the team and any game he plays in, so I’m delighted we have been able to offer another one of our promising academy graduates a long-term deal at the club.”

Mick Gooding, radio pundit

Gooding didn’t shy away from complimenting the youngster last year when Reading drew with QPR.

Back then, Rinomhota was only breaking into his current team’s starting lineup and his presence was already starting to be felt. By that time, and despite his young age, he was shaping up to become an extremely important figure in their jigsaw.

A true test for any Leeds fan: Can you match these iconic images with the right results?

Gooding recognised this and was immediately raving about the youngster on BBC Radio Berkshire, as quoted by football.london:

“He’s got a bit of everything. He’s tall, strong, quick, can tackle and he can beat players.

“Since he’s come into the first team he is just getting better and better with the experience.

“It’s really refreshing and you can see he just loves playing.

“I’m sure he’s on a comfortable contract but rather than being a player who is playing to earn money you can see [he is not and] he loves playing football. He wants to play football and he’s a breath of fresh air.”

Paul Clement, former Reading manager

Another manager who was quickly impressed by the talent of the player in question is Reading’s former gaffer, Paul Clement.

In 2018, just after a 3-2 victory over Bristol City and with Rinomhota given his full league debut in the team, his coach was full of praise and admired the youngster’s performance.

He said, as quoted by Reading’s official webpage:

“I thought he played really well. He has had to be patient for his opportunity and he has been patient.

“Andy is a fantastic professional. Every day, he is committed to learning, improving, giving his best.

“He’s a credit to this club, our Academy, his family – I’m sure they were very proud to see him play in the win.”

Verdict

By all accounts, Rinomhota looks like a true prospect and someone who could potentially ease the burden Phillips is carrying on his shoulders at the moment.

Of course, it still remains to be seen whether Bielsa gets his target or not, but it’s one to keep an eye on during the January window.

Crystal Palace fans wish they still had Glenn Murray at their club

[ad_pod ]

Glenn Murray took his tally of Premier League goals for the season to seven with his strike in Brighton’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Saturday afternoon. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, have scored just eight league goals as a team all season.

Murray last represented the Eagles in 2015, before then-manager at Selhurst Park, Alan Pardew, sold the striker to Bournemouth. Since then, the 35-year-old forward has racked up a century of goals for his current club, Brighton.

Playmaker FC’s Matchday with Max caught up with Jamaica’s women’s team. See what happened when he met the history makers in the video below…

Now under Roy Hodgson, Palace are desperate for a goalscorer to arrive at Selhurst Park to kick their campaign into life. Their top scorer so far this season is their talismanic winger, Wilfried Zaha, but they are far too reliant upon the 26-year-old to supply end product.

Palace fans are crying out for a striker. Many wish Murray had never been allowed to leave the club. Plenty of supporters have recently taken to Twitter, in light of Murray’s recent goalscoring exploits, to berate Pardew for his poor decision and to wish the forward was back amongst their ranks…

Sacking Pellegrini after four games would be ridiculous from West Ham United

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini is not in imminent danger of getting sacked, according to The Mirror.

What’s the word?

A feeling of optimism surrounded the London Stadium when Manuel Pellegrini was appointed as the Hammers’ new manager at the end of last season.

The Chilean, who won the Premier League title while in charge of Manchester City, went straight to work by bringing in nine new signings.

However, the ambitiousness in the transfer window has not reflected onto the pitch as the club have lost all four of their top-flight matches so far.

The most recent loss came in the form of a 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on home soil.

Despite the disastrous start to the season, The Mirror reports that owners David Gold and David Sullivan have no immediate plans to dismiss Pellegrini.

Is this the right call?

It is easy to make a knee-jerk reaction in this situation, but it would be too hasty from West Ham and co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan to sack Pellegrini after such a short time, and the duo owe it to the fans to give the 64-year-old more time.

The Chilean may be struggling right now but he is not exactly a novice when it comes to coaching in the Premier League.

He spent three years at Man City and guided the club to three trophy wins during that time.

Bringing in a lot of new signings means that they need a few games to gel as a team, so it is important that the Hammers give Pellegrini enough time to allow that.

In a few months, if things have not improved then the owners can reassess the situation.
