WBA must complete Scott Twine transfer

West Bromwich Albion were ultimately unsuccessful in their attempt at getting out of the Championship and back into the Premier League this season.

In their 46 league games, initially under Valerien Ismael and then Steve Bruce, the Baggies won 18, drew 13 and lost 15, leaving them with a 10th-place finish.

One figure in West Brom’s squad who didn’t have much of an impact on the team despite playing regularly this season is Grady Diangana.

Diangana’s 2021/22

With 31 appearances to his name in the 2021/22 campaign, the attacker scored just two goals and only provided one assist along the way.

By the end of the season, players such as Adam Reach and Alex Mowatt had more goal contributions than the 24-year-old, who has had his performances in the past labelled “desperate” by Adrian Goldberg.

Along with his lack of regular goal contributions, Diangana’s overall performances were also not up to scratch – so much so that WhoScored gave him a season rating of 6.39/10, making him the lowest-rated outfield Baggies player currently at the club to have started more than one league game.

Now that the summer transfer window is around the corner, there’s every chance that Bruce may not feel like the winger is capable of being an important squad figure for Albion and having what it takes to get them back to the Premier League.

In terms of potential incoming transfers at The Hawthorns, one player with whom the Baggies have been linked and who could potentially push Diangana out the door is Scott Twine.

Axe Diangana, sign Twine

Since joining MK Dons from Swindon Town last summer, the 22-year-old has taken League One by storm.

In 46 league appearances, the versatile attacker found the net 20 times and supplied 13 assists in the process, earning himself a superb overall performance rating of 7.4/10 from WhoScored.

Despite being in the third tier, the youngster has shown that he could prove to be just as good in the Championship if given the chance.

Labelled a “human highlight reel” by podcaster Ryan Dilks, Twine’s versatility by playing in numerous midfield and attacking positions this season could also make him a useful squad figure for Bruce, as well as being a more clinical player in front of goal than Diangana.

Therefore, bringing him to The Hawthorns may then give the manager the scope to axe the former West Ham winger for good.

Liverpool vs Chelsea early team news

Liverpool will unleash Jordan Henderson in the holding midfield role in place of the injured Fabinho, according to journalist James Pearce.

The Lowdown: Reds hit with Fabinho blow

The Reds have been relatively fortunate in the injury department of late but that changed during their 2-1 win away to Aston Villa in the Premier League in midweek.

Fabinho limped off early in proceedings with a hamstring injury and the Brazilian will now miss both the FA Cup final and Liverpool’s two remaining league games this season.

His involvement in the Champions League final is also up in the air, as Jurgen Klopp’s men look to win a seventh European Cup in Paris, although reports late this week suggest he will be fit for the season finale.

The Latest: Pearce drops early team news

Taking to Twitter, The Athletic‘s Pearce says that Henderson is now ‘set to play’ the No.6 role – the skipper has played just 13 of his 53 appearances this season in that position.

“Jordan Henderson set to play the holding role in Saturday’s FA Cup final.”

The Verdict: Silver lining

Fabinho is one of Liverpool’s most important players, mastering the defensive midfield role and being hailed as a ‘lighthouse’ by Pep Lijnders, so him being out is an enormous blow. The 28-year-old has averaged 1.6 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game in the league this season, not to mention scoring an impressive eight goals in all competitions.

However, while Henderson’s usual role is further forward on the right of a midfield three, his record in the defensive spot this season is somewhat remarkable – of the 13 games he’s played there (12 starts), the Reds have won 12 and drawn just once, a win rate of 92 per cent.

The captain manages less tackles and interceptions per game than the Brazilian, but provides nearly twice as many key passes, so could make the side more creative against Chelsea’s stern back five set-up.

Nottingham Forest must revive Gnagnon chase

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Copper must sign “sensational” defender Joris Gnagnon on a free transfer this summer. The Frenchman is currently without a club after being released from Saint-Etienne recently.

Forest were linked (via Nottingham Forest News) with him back in 2019 when they were managed by Sabri Lamouchi, who tried to convince the player to move to The City Ground when he was at Sevilla.

It hasn’t worked out for him since, and after being released from the Spanish club last year, he joined Saint-Etienne where he spent this season. There is a talent in there somewhere and the fact he’s available for free has got to make this even more appealing for Cooper and his staff.

He could come into the club and provide great competition for the defenders currently at Forest, and bring with him top-flight experience which could be needed should they secure promotion to the Premier League.

Gnagnon has made 19 appearances in Ligue 1 this season with his now former side battling to remain in the division.

One of the players he would be competing with if he moved would be Joe Worrall. The English defender has been pivotal to Forest’s promotion push having played 39 of their games in the league this season and is a favourite with the fans.

It would be hard to displace him given his impressive performances, however, we think that Gnagnon is a better defender and can offer Forest even more.

His statistics defensively are more striking, with Saint-Etienne winning possession of the ball 90 times this season as a result of a tackle made by Gnagnon. That compares to just 42 times for Forest and Worrall.

He also excels when passing the ball with an impressive pass completion percentage of 90% compared to the Englishman on 77%.

Although it may have not worked out for him at his past two clubs, this is a transfer with very low risk that Forest should be seriously considering. With no transfer fee involved, even if it didn’t go well, the club wouldn’t be massively out of pocket.

He was being paid £29k per week when he was at Sevilla and probably would be willing to take a pay cut to secure a move. Cooper must swoop for Gnagnon now before he’s snapped up by someone else.

Tottenham Hotspur: Italian source shares big McKennie update

According to Italian sources, a major Tottenham Hotspur transfer update has come to light involving Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie.

The Lowdown: Spurs long-linked…

The Lilywhites have long been interested in the former Schlake star, according to reports, and you can trace links all the way back to 2020.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

McKennie, during his time in the Bundesliga, was allegedly turning Tottenham’s head before he opted to join Serie A powerhouses Juve instead.

Commenting at the time, former Spurs striker Darren Bent called the USA international a would-be ‘very Spursy signing’, and it appears the Premier League side’s interest hasn’t waned.

The Latest: Tottenham ready offer…

According to TuttoJuve, Spurs, and by extension their transfer chief Fabio Paratici are ‘ready to offer’ around €30 million (£26m) for his services this summer.

They also say the north Londoners are rethinking signing McKennie who is an ‘old passion’ for manager Antonio Conte.

The Verdict: Make it happen?

Conte apparently wants to sign two new midfielders this summer amid a plethora of other transfer demands and Juve’s ace may well be an astute option, even despite Bent’s Spursy comment.

While he is hardly an untouchable under Massimiliano Allegri, MLS correspondent and USA national team critic Chris Smith of 90min has drawn attention to his brilliant performances at international level.

The reporter has lavished praise on McKennie, branding the starlet a ‘pressing machine’ and ‘supremely underrated’ attacking threat for his country.

His young age indicates he may only get better, and for just £26m, the price tag would be a fairly reasonable one if Juventus agree to it.

Spurs: Gold makes ‘excellent’ Ward-Prowse claim

Tottenham Hotspur correspondent and reliable reporter Alasdair Gold has shared a transfer update for supporters involving Southampton star James Ward-Prowse.

The Lowdown: Saints star shining…

Ward-Prowse, who has been having the season of his life at St. Mary’s Stadium, may well be a wanted man this summer as his stock continues to rise.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 27-year-old has been backed for more opportunities under Gareth Southgate at international level with England and the numbers suggest this would be more than deserved.

According to WhoScored, at least before today’s Premier League action, Ward-Prowse ranks in as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s best player in the Premier League – averaging their highest match-rating whilst clinching the most Man of the Match awards.

Sharing news on possible interest from the Lilywhites as a result, Gold now has an update.

The Latest: Paratici casts eye…

Tottenham, and by extension transfer chief Fabio Paratici, have ‘long’ been keeping tabs on the midfielder – according to the journalist.

Calling Ward-Prowse a would-be ‘excellent addition’, Gold goes on to hint it could be difficult to finalise the transfer despite Paratici and co eyeing a move.

He explained (via football.london):

“Spurs have long been keeping an eye on James Ward-Prowse but I wonder just how expensive he’ll be this summer with four years left on his contract and plenty of interested parties. He’d be an excellent addition though for Tottenham with his leadership abilities, dynamic play and of course those set pieces.”

The Verdict: Get it done?

Ex-Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara has also called the Saints’ star man a ‘massive’ player to have in your team, and not just for dead balls.

The fact he is homegrown and could help to balance that real issue at Tottenham is another major incentive to advance with reports suggesting he is valued at around the £40 million mark.

Amid his brilliant run of form, that could price could well rise, but Ward-Prowse may be worth the significant investment as manager Antonio Conte reportedly targets two midfield signings.

Sutton urges Celtic hero to start v Rangers

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes Giorgios Giakoumakis ‘must start’ the Hoops’ vital Scottish Premiership clash with Rangers this weekend.

The Lowdown: Impressive season for Giakoumakis

The Greek has enjoyed a good first season at Parkhead, providing firepower in the final third and helping his side sit top of the table with four games left to play.

Giakoumakis has scored nine league goals in just ten starts, highlighting his pedigree, and he has also likely endeared himself to the Parkhead faithful when he riled former Rangers player Brian Laudrup by claiming Celtic would win the title.

The Hoops entertain their biggest rivals on Sunday afternoon, looking to either retain their six-point lead or even extend it to nine.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/key-latest-celtic-updates-4/” title=”Key latest Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Latest: Sutton makes team news plea

Taking to Twitter on Saturday, Sutton urged Ange Postecoglou to start Giakoumakis for the game:

“I think Giorgios Giakoumakis must start against Rangers on Sunday.”

The Verdict: Makes perfect sense

Admittedly, Postecoglou has some selection headaches ahead of Sunday’s match – Sutton also mentions that it would be hard to leave out Kyogo Furuhashi – so at least one good player is likely to miss out on a place in the starting lineup.

That being said, Giakoumakis should definitely begin proceedings at Parkhead, with his aforementioned goalscoring record proof that he could be a difference-maker in a tight contest, while he also offers a proper focal point at the top of the pitch.

The 27-year-old now has a couple of cameos in his legs after returning from injury, meaning he should be primed to play a starring role on arguably the biggest day of the season.

In other news, a fresh Celtic transfer update has emerged. Read more here.

Crystal Palace target Tyler Morton amid key update on Adam Wharton's future

Crystal Palace are now eyeing Lyon starlet Tyler Morton as a possible replacement for Adam Wharton, amid a new update on the midfielder’s future at Selhurst Park.

Wharton’s future at Selhurst Park remains up in the air, with a number of Premier League clubs emerging as potential suitors for the midfielder, including Chelsea, and it has now been revealed the Blues are “actively in talks” over a deal.

The 21-year-old was recently called up to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel, having remained a key player for Oliver Glasner’s side this season, with perhaps his most impressive performance coming in the 2-1 win against Liverpool, creating two big chances and making four key passes.

Unfortunately, the Eagles have become accustomed to losing some of their best players in recent years, with Michael Olise moving to Bayern Munich and Eberechi Eze joining Arsenal, and the former Blackburn Rovers man will also continue to attract attention from top clubs if he continues his current performance levels.

Consequently, Glasner & co may have to start thinking about bringing in a replacement, and a report has now given an update on their chances of signing a former Liverpool player…

Crystal Palace eyeing Tyler Morton

According to a report from Jeunes Footeux (via Sport Witness), Crystal Palace are now eyeing a move for Lyon midfielder Morton, a matter of months after he left Arne Slot’s side to sign for the Ligue 1 club.

The French side are currently experiencing financial difficulties, which means they may be tempted to cash-in, should Palace be willing to come to the negotiating table with a ‘substantial offer’.

The Eagles are currently monitoring the 23-year-old closely, as they are preparing for Wharton’s departure in 2026, amid interest from a number of unnamed clubs.

The Wallasey-born midfielder, who is represented by the same agent as Borna Sosa, found it difficult to establish himself as a first-team regular at Liverpool, but he has been a key player for Lyon this season, most recently picking up an assist in a 3-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.

Scout Ben Mattinson has also provided a positive review of the Englishman’s key attributes, saying: “Morton is a complete midfielder with an all-round ability to dictate tempo with his passing, carry forward and win the ball. Particularly his long passing stands out.”

Game time may have been hard to come by at his former club, but the Liverpool academy graduate did manage to impress when given the opportunity, having been singled out for praise for his performance against West Ham United last season.

Morton is at the right age to be a solid long-term replacement for Wharton, but Crystal Palace’s main priority should be to keep hold of their current central midfielder.

He's like Klopp: INEOS want "incredible" boss to replace Amorim at Man Utd

Manchester United’s defeat against League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night has undoubtedly set a new low for Ruben Amorim during his tenure in charge.

The Red Devils were knocked out in the second round of the competition, losing on penalties after coming from two goals down in the second half.

However, it may prove to be a damning defeat for the 40-year-old, adding more pressure to his shoulders after their dismal start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

His side have failed to win any of the first three games, which could force the hierarchy into making a change – especially after backing him with £200m worth of new additions this summer.

The window still has a few days remaining, but it remains to be seen if the former Sporting CP boss will carry on leading the side, with rumours circulating about his future at Old Trafford.

The latest on Amorim’s future at United

Over the last couple of days, it’s been reported by CaughtOffside that the United hierarchy are now considering making a change of manager, after Amorim’s disastrous start to the new season.

The report states that it’s a matter of time before the 40-year-old is handed his marching orders, with concerns around his ability to take the side forward in the future.

INEOS are said to be willing to make an early decision to sack the boss, in order to avoid a repeat of last season, which saw the side finish in a measly 15th place.

The same article also states that Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is being lined up as a potential replacement, if and when Amorim is dismissed from his position at Old Trafford.

It states that the FA Cup-winning boss would be keen to take the reins, potentially being the next manager in a long list to try and take the Red Devils back to their former glory.

Why United’s Amorim replacement would be Klopp 2.0

Jürgen Klopp is a manager who has caused United no end of problems over the years, often leading rivals Liverpool to countless victories over the Red Devils in the Premier League.

The German only suffered five defeats in his 21 outings against the Red Devils, even claiming a historic 7-0 victory at Anfield back in the 2022/23 campaign.

Whilst he may have managed their bitter rivals, there’s no denying the former Reds boss is a serial winner – something which United have lacked, given their decade-long wait for a top-division title.

He may be out of management after leaving Liverpool in 2024, but there is no chance he would return to management and replace Amorim – especially considering his ties with the Merseyside outfit.

However, INEOS could hire their own answer to Klopp with a move for Glasner, with the Eagles boss previously being compared to the Premier League legend by German expert Constantin Eckner.

When comparing his stats at Selhurst Park to Amorim in England’s top-flight, he’s managed to better him in various key areas – potentially being the perfect replacement should the former Sporting CP boss depart.

Oliver Glasner lifts the FA Cup.

Glasner, who’s been dubbed “incredible” by Pep Guardiola, has achieved a better win percentage than Amorim – doing so whilst having a much lower budget during his time in England.

He’s also notched a better point per game record, having the tools to change the Red Devils’ fortunes should he take the reins in the coming months.

The Austrian’s dominance over the United boss is further reflected in his ability to build a solid defensive unit – achieving a better goal conceded per 90 record.

Amorim’s future in the role could well be coming to an end in the coming weeks, but it’s clear such a decision would be the right one after such an embarrassing showing in the Carabao Cup.

Glasner would be an excellent replacement, already winning two trophies in recent months, having the tools to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford should he make the move.

Chelsea now readying £43m offer for Real Madrid target to replace Colwill

Chelsea are now preparing a £43m offer for a “world-class” Real Madrid target, who could be brought in as a replacement for Levi Colwill, according to a report.

Blues readying bid for centre-back after Colwill blow

There were always concerns that competing in the Club World Cup may have a negative knock-on effect going into the new season, and the Blues have already suffered a major injury blow, with Colwill set to miss most of the campaign due to an ACL injury.

Since then, Enzo Maresca has hinted that another centre-back could be brought in to account for the loss of the 22-year-old, with the manager saying: “It depends – we will wait and see.

“You know in our way, how important Levi has been. I spoke with him yesterday and I told him that if we achieve what we achieved last year, it is also because of him – and he was a main player for us.”

It has since been revealed that the west Londoners are expected to make a bid for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo imminently, but a Premier League centre-back has also now entered the frame as a potential option…

That is according to reports in Spain, which state Chelsea are now preparing a €50m (£43m) offer for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, who is also being targeted by Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid.

Madrid are confident about securing Konate’s signature on a free transfer next summer, upon the expiration of his contract, but the Blues have now entered the race, and they are willing to pay the exact amount Liverpool are looking for.

It's not Palmer: PSG now submit £130m offer for "unbelievable" Chelsea star

Paris Saint-Germain have launched a bid for one of the Blues’ key players.

ByDominic Lund Aug 11, 2025

At present, however, a move to Real Madrid is still the most likely outcome, given that the Reds are reluctant to strengthen one of their direct Premier League rivals, and the player himself is leaning towards a move to the Santiago Bernabéu.

"World-class" Konate would be major coup for Chelsea

In truth, it seems unlikely that the Blues will be able to get a deal done, considering the French defender has no reason to leave the reigning Premier League champions, and Liverpool are hesitant to let him move to Stamford Bridge.

However, the Reds are at risk of losing the 26-year-old on a free transfer if they don’t cash-in this summer, which means it could be tempting to sanction a sale, and he could be a fantastic acquisition for the Blues.

The France international played a major role in Liverpool’s 2024-25 Premier League title triumph, making 31 appearances, and journalist David Lynch believes he is now “world-class”.

Konate is clearly entering the prime of his career, and it would be a major coup if Chelsea were able to get a deal done, but it seems extremely unlikely that Arne Slot’s side will agree to a sale, given that they are already light on centre-back options.

Burnley make contact to sign ace with "great potential" amid Kompany talks

Burnley are preparing for their return to the Premier League next season and could now enlist Vincent Kompany’s support in their pursuit of an exciting signing.

Burnley look ahead to Premier League return

Scott Parker has emerged as something of a promotion specialist since stepping into the dugout, and he has repeated the trick with the Clarets in some style this term. Following another exciting Championship campaign filled with drama, Burnley have a chance to claim the league crown against Millwall on Saturday lunchtime before preparing for life back in the Premier League.

Burnley managerScottParker

With the gap between England’s first and second tiers growing year-on-year, Turf Moor chiefs will have their work cut out in seeking reinforcements to give them a fighting chance of staying up in 2025/26.

Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is a target for Burnley after being told he is free to leave Stamford Bridge after one season, which may be the sort of signing Parker is after to give his side a genuine shot at survival. Harrison Reed could also be on his way to the Clarets if Fulham are willing to cut a deal this summer, adding some experience to an engine room that is already bristling with talent.

Ipswich now pursue new deal for £27,500-a-week star amid Burnley interest

Burnley and Leeds are once again going head-to-head but this time off the pitch.

ByBrett Worthington Apr 24, 2025

Bridging the gap won’t be an easy endeavour for Burnley. The Premier League is notoriously demanding at the best of times, but they have shown an ability in years gone by to mix it with the best.

Now, the newly-promoted outfit have set their sights on an international goalkeeper who could be on his way out of one of Europe’s most reputable clubs, per recent developments.

Burnley looking to sign Bayern Munich's Daniel Peretz

According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Burnley have initiated talks over signing Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz after making ‘specific enquiries’ through former boss Kompany regarding his availability. Hamburg are also keen on the Israel international, who is set to leave the Allianz Arena either permanently with a buyback clause or on loan over the next few months.

Commended for his “great potential” by Jan-Christian Dreesen, Peretz has made seven appearances for Bayern in total since joining from Maccabi Tel Aviv, keeping a solitary clean sheet. Despite being behind Manuel Neuer in the pecking order, the 24-year-old has made ten saves on Bundesliga duty this term, equating to a percentage rate of 66.7%.

Burnley will need to recruit stars with pedigree this summer and Peretz’ background at one of the world’s elite clubs could be an appealing factor as they look forward to life back in the Premier League.
