Ex-Leeds star Pontus Jansson sends the club a message on 100th birthday

Watching a footballer leave your favourite club can be like going through a break-up.Someone who you’ve admired for years just isn’t a part of your life anymore, and the majority of the time these things happen and contact is completely cut.Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

However, just like an ex-partner sending a random voicemail a few months after a split, Pontus Jansson has tweeted about Leeds United as the club celebrated their 100th anniversary.

Seeing the Swede wishing his former club well on their special day will probably make a number of Leeds fans very emotional.

In fact, the replies to his tweet show that many supporters still have a great admiration for the centre-back.

Jansson is certainly one of the most iconic players to have played at Elland Road in recent years due to his passion and fight, and he’s also one of the best as he made the Championship Team of the Year on two occasions while playing for the Whites.

It’s nice to see that there are no hard feelings between the defender and his former club despite the fact that he was reportedly forced out due to being a negative influence within the squad.

Arsenal fans praise Unai Emery’s substitutions against Aston Villa

[ad_pod ]

Sunday’s match against Aston Villa was far more nerve-wracking for Arsenal fans than they would have expected.

A game against a newly-promoted side is often looked at on the fixture list as a good opportunity to pick up three points and Unai Emery’s men will have hoped for a comfortable victory.

In the end, though, in true Gunners fashion, it was anything but.

The Emirates outfit twice came back from a one-goal deficit and were also reduced to ten men when Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off for two bookable offences, before coming out with a 3-2 victory.

Unai Emery probably deserves some credit for that, certainly in regards to his substitutions.

Calum Chambers, Lucas Torreira and Joe Willock all come on, with the former scoring the equaliser the second time around.

And the north London team’s supporters were quick to praise the former Sevilla boss’ changes.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings explains the moment he thought he’d ‘made it’

The road to becoming a professional footballer is filled with many twists and turns.

There are a number of points in a young player’s career where it can all fall apart, with many youngsters playing at academies during their teenage years never going on to make a single senior appearance for a professional team.

However, for the players that are destined for the big-time, there comes a point where they realise they’ve made it.

Tyrone Mings appeared on the BBC Sport YouTube channel to answer a few questions this week, and he revealed when he realised his dream of becoming a footballer was coming true.

The Aston Villa man’s answer was quite hilarious in its sincerity, as he revealed that he thought he’d hit the big time when he swapped his Citroen Saxo for a Vauxhall Corsa soon after he’d signed for Ipswich Town.

We’re sure that Mings can afford something a bit better than a Corsa nowadays after signing for Aston Villa for £26.5m, but it’s funny to see how far the defender has come over the years.

Arsenal in talks with Alexandre Lacazette over new contract

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Arsenal are in talks with striker Alexandre Lacazette over a new contract, per Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira.

What’s the word?

The France international has scored twice in three Premier League appearances already this season, including one in the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Lacazette scored 19 goals in all competitions in 2018/19, while also registering 13 assists.

Schira claims that Arsenal have opened discussions over a possible new contract, which would run until 2023.

It would include a salary of €12.5m (£11.3m), or a weekly wage of £217,000.

A brilliant forward

Arsenal have to keep Lacazette at the club for as long as possible.

The forward is 28 and is hitting his peak, and he has the ability to both score and assist.

When paired with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has three goals this season already, Lacazette comes alive, regularly looking to thread through passes as well as trying to hit the back of the net.

Indeed, the Frenchman laid on the most assists of any Gunners player in the Premier League last season and also had the second-highest number of shots.

He is the complete attacker; Arsenal dare not lose him.

Wolves’ decision to withdraw Morgan Gibbs-White against Braga proved costly

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Off the Bench series, which places in-game managerial decisions and squad selections under FFC’s microscope.

Wolves succumbed to defeat in their Europa League Group K opener as Braga snatched all three points with a 1-0 victory at Molineux on Thursday night.

A defensive mistake from centre-back Ryan Bennett handed the ball on a plate to Wenderson Galeno, who then charged towards goal before pulling the ball back for Ricardo Horta to smash home past Rui Patricio from the edge of the area.

Thogden ranks every Premier League goalkeeper kit in the video below…

Snapshot

The goal occurred just four minutes after a key substitution from the home side.

With the game becoming increasingly frustrating for Wolves, their boss Nuno Santo needed a creative spark in midfield and turned to Portuguese playmaker Joao Moutinho in the 67th minute as he replaced Morgan Gibbs-White.

Moutinho assisted eight goals in the Premier League last season while the 33-year-old managed half that in the team’s six qualification matches leading to this match.

Off the Bench

In hindsight, it was the wrong decision as the England U21 international was one of the livelier players on the pitch.

Gibbs-White recorded two key passes, three successful dribbles and even drew two fouls, thus resulting in valuable dead-ball opportunities.

The introduction of Moutinho wasn’t the wrong move per se, but certainly, the incorrect player was replaced.

Instead, Leander Dendoncker should have been hauled off for yet another disastrous and weak showing.

The Belgian international conceded two fouls and his passing was generally sloppy, recording a success rate of just 68.2% which was the lowest in the starting XI barring striker Patrick Cutrone.

His form domestically has followed a similar nature, averaging a lowly rating of just 6.38 – and his regression is something FFC have already outlined previously.

If Moutinho was introduced alongside Gibbs-White they could have garnered better success in front of goal, there’s no way of knowing if Braga still would have scored, though it was unlikely considering they had registered just one shot on target prior to the 71st-minute winner.

The young 19-year-old midfielder scored his first goal for the club in this very competition netting against Pyunik and was one of Wolves’ only threats in the attacking third.

That decision may well have stopped the west Midlands club opening their account in Group K with a perfect result.

Morgan loan could be a very clever long-term move by Celtic

According to Sky Sports football reporter Keith Downie on Twitter, Celtic are in talks with Sunderland about a potential loan move for winger Lewis Morgan.

The move would see the 22-year-old be reunited with manager Jack Ross, with whom he was with last season at St Mirren. Morgan was sensational last season with The Buddies, helping secure them promotion from the Scottish Championship with 14 goals and six assists in 35 appearances. The club finished 12 points ahead of second place, which is an indication of how dominant Morgan and St Mirren were last campaign.

However, Morgan has struggled to make an impact so far for Celtic this season, and while he has featured under Brendan Rodgers, it has largely been from the bench and he is yet to score. But at the age of 22, he is still in his formative years, and it would make sense if he joins up with the manager that has been able to get the best from him so far in his career. It will only help his development before returning to Parkhead.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”367484″ player=”13308″ title=”Celtic”]

This, therefore, if effectively a win-win situation for The Bhoys. They are not loaning a player to a club that is barely going to play him or are sitting in mid-table of their league. They are chasing promotion, and therefore the pressure will be on Morgan in the same way that it will be in Glasgow. The Sunderland fans will demand a lot, and this sort of environment will only improve Morgan before his return to Paradise next season.

Real Madrid fans on Twitter fume over the club’s transfer window

The summer transfer window came and went and now we can all finally focus solely on the football once again. Not everyone, however, was satisfied with the outcome they got on the market, and that’s how it usually works. You win some, you lose some, and according to many Real Madrid fans, Los Blancos definitely lost this one.Zinedine Zidane reinforced his troops with eight new arrivals and three from his youth academy. The biggest name was, of course, Eden Hazard who arrived from Chelsea but as far as the Galactico signings go, that was mostly it.Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Lots of the fans were quick to jump to Twitter as soon as the transfer window closed to vent and voice their disappointment over the club’s activity during the summer.

You can see some of their reactions in the tweets below as they list some of the problems Madrid failed to address and voice their general feelings about the signings that were made.

Tim Spiers: Lage wants Jordao at Wolves

Wolves haven’t ruled out the idea of allowing Bruno Jordao to leave on loan this month but would rather keep hold of him, according to journalist Tim Spiers.

The Lowdown: Jordao’s lack of action

The 23-year-old joined Wanderers back in 2019 but he is yet to become a key figure in the Black Country, spending last season on loan at Famalicao in his homeland of Portugal and accruing only four senior appearances for his current club.

Jordao has been plagued by injury for the last year and he is still yet to feature for a single minute of Wolves’ 2021/22 campaign at first team level.

It remains to be seen whether the midfielder moves on during the January transfer window, but an update has been provided on the situation.

The Latest: Spiers provides Jordao update

Taking to Twitter on Friday, Spiers admitted that Jordao’s future is up in the air but made it clear that Bruno Lage is a keen admirer of the 23-year-old.

The journalist claimed: “He’s talked Jordao up a lot recently. Hasn’t ruled out a loan for him but says at the moment he’d prefer him to stay.”

The Verdict: Loan move beneficial

Assuming that Jordao proves his fitness, it could make sense to allow him to depart on loan for the remainder of the season in order to get his rhythm back.

Realistically, it is hard to see the Portuguese getting too many minutes for Wanderers currently, considering that the likes of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho are such key figures in the middle of the park, although Spiers has hinted that the 23-year-old could get a runout in today’s FA Cup clash against Sheffield United.

A few months out on loan could do wonders, with Jordao then returning to Molineux in the summer ready to push for a more regular starting berth.

Leeds: Kevin Phillips reacts to Brenden Aaronson update

Sky Sports pundit Kevin Phillips has been giving his thoughts on Leeds United’s pursuit of RB Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson, Football Insider report.

The Lowdown: Where we stand

At this moment in time, it seems like Aaronson or nothing for the Whites heading into the final days of the January window.

Any interest in Ronaldo Vieira is now off after Sampdoria decided they would like to keep the former Whites man, and Victor Orta is running out of time to find alternative options for Marcelo Bielsa.

Orta has made the American a key target though, with Leeds having an initial £15m offer turned down. They’ve since returned with a £20m bid, btu Salzburg are yet to accept despite Leeds remaining hopeful of agreeing on a deal.

The Latest: Phillips reacts

Phillips, who regularly contributes for Sky Sports, was talking to Football Insider regarding the pursuit of Aaronson.

He admitted he would be ‘very surprised’ if a transfer went through, labelling it as ‘crazy’ – he feels the club should be after a striker instead.

“I would say that’s crazy.

“Another attacking midfielder? When they haven’t got a second senior striker it makes no sense to me.

“I don’t think an attacking midfielder should be the priority right now. I think a striker and then a holding midfielder is what is needed. Most people would agree that’s a better option.

“Unless Aaronson can play in a false nine role, the money would be better spent in other areas.

“It stood out in the game against Newcastle that Leeds need another striker. That game highlighted it. I would be very surprised if that move goes through.”

The Verdict: Both needed

Phillips’ comments on ‘another attacking midfielder’ are rather strange when you take into consideration Leeds currently don’t have an out and out attacking midfielder on the books at Elland Road.

However, Leeds have struggled without Patrick Bamford’s focal point in attack, so a new forward is probably actually needed as well as Aaronson, not instead of.

It doesn’t seem likely though that they would suddenly splash the cash on two big signings, given the lack of concrete links to forward targets, so the capture of Aaronson alone may be the best case scenario for Leeds fans in the coming days.

In other news: Orta now eyeing record Leeds signing for Bielsa in 12-goal international – report.

Rangers: Patterson backed to join Everton

Nathan Patterson may be open to leaving Rangers and joining Everton as he struggles to dislodge James Tavernier.

That’s according to BBC Radio pundit Noel Whelan, who was speaking to Football Insider.

The lowdown

Patterson has been limited to just two starts in Rangers’ first 20 Premiership matches this season, with Tavernier selected for the other 18. Indeed, more than a quarter of his total game-time so far in 2021/22 has come in the Scottish League Cup.

The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell has written that ‘figuring out how to use Nathan Patterson’ is one of the key challenges facing Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox. The youngster has started just two of the Dutchman’s nine matches in charge so far.

Everton made two attempts to sign the 20-year-old last summer and are expected to renew their pursuit when the January transfer window opens next week (via The Guardian).

The latest

Whelan reckons that Patterson could succeed 33-year-old Seamus Coleman at Goodison Park or even slot in at left-back after Lucas Digne reportedly fell out with Rafael Benitez.

The former Aberdeen striker added that, while the youngster has looked a ‘top talent’, the presence of Tavernier limits his prospects at Rangers.

Whelan told Football Insider: “Obviously we know that Seamus Coleman isn’t getting any younger in that right-back spot. There’s also an opportunity for him on the left with the Lucas Digne situation, he could fill in there.

“He’s played there for Rangers recently. Even though he’s a top talent, it’s bound to be hard to get in the side ahead of the skipper, James Tavernier.

“We’ve seen him really impress for Scotland as well and he’s shown he can be a brilliant attacking talent as well on international duty. From what I know, he’s got a lot of potential.”

The verdict

You can see why Van Bronckhorst may be reluctant to leave Tavernier on the bench or alter his position. The skipper has recorded more goal involvements (14) than anybody else in the Gers squad from his right-back berth.

Indeed, if you go by WhoScored metrics, he has been Rangers’ highest-performing player this season, averaging a rating of 7.79/10.

Intriguingly, Van Bronckhorst managed to fit both players into the team against Dundee United recently by selecting Patterson on the left. Perhaps he’ll need to do that more often in the interests of the youngster’s development and indeed his transfer value.
