Ireland have offered free entry to their upcoming matches for those supporters who saw only 10.4 overs of their ODI with Australia in Belfast. Brett Lee took two wickets in his first three deliveries and a fantastic catch from Michael Clarke helped Australia further reduce Ireland to 36 for 3 before the rain returned to cause the abandonment of the one-off ODI.Supporters will be able to gain free entry to one of Ireland’s two World Cricket League matches against Afghanistan in Dublin on July 3 or 5, or for their T20 series against Bangladesh back in Belfast on July 18, 20 or 21.There was little action against Australia but Lee, making his first appearance of the tour ahead of Australia’s five-match ODI series against England, proved his form by knocking over the off stumps of both William Porterfield – for a golden duck – and Ed Joyce in a double-wicket maiden to start the match. Paul Stirling hit four fours in his 24 but fell in Pat Cummins’ third over to check Ireland’s mini-revival.With little more than 10 overs bowled, the teams were forced off by a heavy downpour and, despite repeated inspections, the umpires finally called play off shortly before 4pm.Australia’s captain, Clarke, won the toss and sent Ireland in to bat after a 45-minute delay to the scheduled start. The ground had recovered well from heavy pre-match rain, allowing the match to get underway at 11.30am local time, without a reduction on the allotted 50 overs a side. The tourists made four changes from the team that accounted for Leicestershire in their opening match of the tour, a minor muscle strain ruling out George Bailey and allowing Peter Forrest to come in. The pace attack was reshuffled entirely, Lee, Cummins and Ben Hilfenhaus for Mitchell Johnson, James Pattinson and Clint McKay.Ireland opened up with Stirling and Porterfield at the top of the order, the same combination that gave Australia a fright the last time these two sides met in 2010, while Tim Murtagh was handed an expected debut.Ireland 1 Paul Stirling, 2 Will Porterfield (capt), 3 Ed Joyce, 4 Niall O’Brien (wk), 5 Gary Wilson, 6 Kevin O’Brien, 7 Alex Cusack, 8 John Mooney, 9 Trent Johnston, 10 George Dockrell, 11 Tim Murtagh.Australia 1 David Warner, 2 Matthew Wade (wk), 3 Shane Watson, 4 Michael Clarke (capt), 5 David Hussey, 6 Peter Forrest, 7 Steve Smith, 8 Brett Lee, 9 Pat Cummins, 10 Ben Hilfenhaus, 11 Xavier Doherty.

Somerset keep semi-final hopes alive

Somerset defeated Scotland by 53 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis system after rain affected their Clydesdale Bank 40 fixture

19-Aug-2012
ScorecardSomerset defeated Scotland by 53 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis system after rain affected their Clydesdale Bank 40 fixture.Scotland won the toss and decided to bat first but were bowled out for 163 and were indebted to Preston Mommsen’s 67 to even take them that far. Rain ended the match after 22.4 overs of the Somerset reply, with their total of 133 for 3 – built around Arul Suppiah’s half-century – far in excess of the revised target of 81.It was Somerset’s sixth CB40 victory in a row and maintains their hopes of a semi-final berth which seemed unlikely after they opened their campaign with four straight defeats followed by a no result.Scotland were dealt an early blow when opening batsman Ryan Flannigan was dismissed for just eight after offering a return catch to Peter Trego, leaving the hosts at 22 for 1. Calum MacLeod was bowled for 14 by Steve Kirby with no addition to the score and debutant Robert Mutch then took the wickets of Richie Berrington and Jean Symes to put Somerset in a commanding position.Mommsen added some resistance to the innings with a gutsy score of 67 but was fast running out of partners as the middle order began to crumble, with Ewan Chalmers falling for four and Craig Wallace trapped lbw for a duck off the bowling of Abdur Rehman.Somerset quickly worked their way through the tail, although Safyaan Sherif added a score of 20 and Mommsen was the last wicket to fall. Kirby finished with two for 22 and Mutch began his Somerset career with 2 for 46.Despite losing opener Trego for 15 Somerset made a solid start to their run chase. Chris Jones was next to fall for 24 as Mommsen took the catch from Majid Haq’s bowling, but by that stage Somerset were 90 for two after a stand of 71 between Jones and Suppiah. The latter made 56 from just 45 balls, with seven fours and a six, to steer his side towards the victory target before his was the last Somerset wicket to fall when he was bowled by Haq.Jos Buttler hit five fours and a six to score a rapid 29 not out while James Hildreth was also still at the crease on nine not out when the heavens opened and Somerset were declared the victors.

-O grupo acreditou em mim desde o início, sempre me transmitindo confiança.

Hamilton-Brown quits Surrey captaincy

Rory Hamilton-Brown has announced that he will stand down as Surrey captain to focus on his own game

Rory Hamilton-Brown has resigned as captain of Surrey having struggled to regain equilibrium following the death of close friend and team-mate Tom Maynard. Although Hamilton-Brown has reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing a playing career, he has accepted it will take time to regain the mental and physical fitness required to fulfil one of the more demanding jobs in cricket.Gareth Batty will continue as Surrey captain until the end of the season, with the club making a decision about a longer-term solution in the off-season. Batty and new signing Vikram Solanki will be among the candidates for the role, though Chris Adams, Surrey’s director of cricket, has made no secret of his desire to bring in new faces.Hamilton-Brown’s resignation brings to an end an experiment that was beginning to bear fruit. Just 22 at the time of his appointment in 2010 – the youngest Surrey captain in more than a century – Hamilton-Brown assumed leadership of a team struggling in all formats of the game. While progress was not always smooth, Surrey won the CB40 competition and Championship promotion in 2011 and, with a squad boasting several highly talented young players, looked set for a period of sustained success. Then came the tragic incident in June that claimed the life of Maynard – a young batsman in whom club and country had high hopes – and Hamilton-Brown was given indefinite compassionate leave to come to terms with his grief. While he has taken the first tentative steps towards a first-team return, he has decided that the responsibilities of captaincy are a burden he can do without at this stage of his rehabilitation. Surrey have not won a Championship game in his absence and endured a poor T20 campaign.”I am honoured to have captained Surrey, the county I have played for since I was nine years old,” Hamilton-Brown said. “It has been a privilege to have been in charge of a fantastic group of players and what we achieved together is a great source of pride to me, particularly our unprecedented record of only one defeat in 20 Clydesdale Bank matches.”I am only 24 and would now like to concentrate on my own game and try to achieve ambitions I have in the game by continuing to play well for Surrey.”Adams said: “I would like to thank Rory for everything he has achieved during his three years as captain. Having taken on the captaincy in 2010, winning a Lord’s final and securing promotion to Division One in 2011 were both fantastic achievements. He has undoubted talent and a desire to take his game to the next level. I hope he achieves all his ambitions within the game in the years to come.”Surrey remain in contention to retain the CB40 trophy – they are top of Group B having lost just one of their eight games – but have slipped into relegation trouble in the Championship, losing their most recent match against Durham by an innings.

Fazendo gols e dando assistências, acho que vou me destacando e assim vai surgir a oportunidade.

Surrey spinners secure status

Surrey played like a team that wanted to end their last match at home on a high and did so with a chilled 195-run victory

On day three, Surrey played like a team unsure how to win, and dreadfully scared they would lose. On day four, Surrey played like a team that wanted to end their last match at home on a high. They did so with a chilled 195-run victory.Surrey used seemingly every spin bowler in their armoury to win the match and, with Lancashire’s defeat at Lord’s, guarantee a spot for themselves in Division One next season.Like a episode starting with a misdirecting and random plot, the day actually started with Nottinghamshire handling the Surrey bowlers with ease. Harry Gurney was a misdirection within a misdirection, and even Notts seemed surprised when he played a bizarre shot off the last ball of the first over to be caught at mid-off.Then Notts stabilised, Neil Edwards and Riki Wessels scoring runs off Stuart Meaker and Tim Linley. They were 39 for 1 when Murali Kartik bowled his first over of the day. From that moment on it was clear that Surrey didn’t need to set 350 as a target, or even 300, or even 250. Mind you, Gareth Batty wanted more. “I wanted another 20 or 30 runs,” he said.It took Notts 30.2 overs to score their next 39 runs, which also cost them four wickets.During the first session Kartik was seemingly unplayable, often missing the outside edge by a few inches and getting the odd ball to steeple in bounce. At the other end Batty was just as dangerous, if not as eye catching. Batty started the spinners’ wicket-taking, trapping Wessels lbw and starting the rot. It was then Kevin Pietersen who looked most likely, his big-spinning, huge-bouncing ball will give Adam Voges nightmares, and the catch by Zander de Bruyn was magnificent.Pietersen bowled unchanged for an hour after lunch, using good control, smart spin and often staggering bounce. Eventually he was rewarded with another wicket, a smart catch behind by Gary Wilson removing Edwards. It was only when Batty went all out attack and had six players in attacking positions for Pietersen – yes Pietersen – and no one saving a single on the off side that Notts started to score again. At one stage, Pietersen had to chase the ball out towards the cover boundary off his own bowling.Batty had nothing but praise for Pietersen the bowler: “He’s a bit taller than the rest of us, and he got some bounce.” Batty was also pleased with Pietersen’s behaviour in general, “I can honestly say that he’s been nothing but absolutely magnificent for us, with myself being new to captaincy, he’s been absolutely phenomenal. The fact is he bowled for an hour today, and he didn’t need to do that, we had other spinners.”Notts certainly never played for the draw, their slow scoring-rate seemed to have more to do with playing and missing against the spinners than a defensive attitude. Chris Read even thought they had a sniff. “It’s very rarely we don’t play cricket to win,” he said. “There was still a chance to bat 96 overs today and win the game.”Batty, Pietersen and Kartik always looked like taking wickets. The Surrey fielders will have sore throats tonight over the many close calls and turned-down decisions as The Oval resembled the last day of a subcontinental Test. When Read was dismissed, by possibly Kartik’s worst ball of the match, it was party time, and even Meaker was invited to come back on and take a wicket.Surrey have had a miserable season in almost every sense, but beating a better team to confirm their place in the top division left Batty beaming, but mostly relieved. “We can go to Liverpool with a smile on our face, and won’t be looking over our shoulder or feeling hard done by,” he said. “There’s been all sorts of things that go on in life that have affected this brilliant club this year. Hopefully we’ve kept a stiff upper lip to keep us in the division.”Surrey deserved an easy day like today in front of their home fans. Last year they partied mercilessly after winning their final home game to get promoted. This year it was more like a communal sigh of relief amid the smiling faces of players who haven’t smiled that much in recent times.Much like a episode, the very last public display at The Oval was another random joke as the groundstaff had an organized sprint. Yet again, Surrey were the winners.

Van der Wath, McLaren crush Warriors in low-scorer

Warriors needed just 106 to beat Knights in the Momentum Cup fixture in Port Elizabeth, but a dramatic collapse meant they fell embarrassingly short, being bundled out for 46

ESPNcricinfo staff23-Nov-2012
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsWarriors needed just 106 to beat Knights in the Momentum Cup fixture in Port Elizabeth, but a dramatic collapse meant they fell embarrassingly short, being bundled out for 46. Knights’ unbelievable win was crafted by seamers Johan van der Wath and Ryan McLaren, who combined to claim seven wickets and secure the 59-run victory on a surface that assisted the quicks. While it was Knights’ second consecutive batting failure (they were bowled out for 94 in their previous game), Warriors’ 46 was the second-lowest total in the history of the one-day competition.Makhaya Ntini and Andrew Birch led the Warriors pace attack and didn’t allow Knights to settle after they batted first. Half the side was dismissed by these quicks, with Knights struggling at 59 for 5 in the 19th over. The remaining wickets did not take much longer to fall, with another seamer, Ayabulela Gqamane, joining in to claim three. But Warriors began their chase equally poorly, losing opener Ashwell Prince in the opening over. At 26 for 1, they looked to have settled down, but the game turned completely: they lost five wickets for a run, courtesy van der Wath and McLaren, to be left reeling at 27 for 6. Spinner Nicky Boje and seamer Maliusi Siboto then took care of the tail, as Warriors’ slide culminated in a whopping defeat in the 21st over.Van der Wath claimed figures of 4 for 26, and and McLaren 3 for 11 – those three scalps were enough to propel McLaren to within touching distance of the top of the tournament’s wickets chart after six games.
