Leeds United had looked at signing Takumi Minamino and Kenedy as possible replacements for Crysencio Summerville in January, according to journalist Phil Hay.

The Lowdown: Summerville stays put

Summerville was linked with a move away from Elland Road late in the month, with a loan switch to Hamburg mooted.

Instead, the 20-year-old ended up staying put at Leeds, where he will hope to play an important role in the Whites’ bid to remain in the Premier League this season. He has made eight appearances in all competitions so far in 2021/22, including five in the league.

The Latest: Leeds had two possible replacements lined up

According to Hay in an article for The Athletic, both Liverpool’s Minamino and Chelsea’s Kenedy were seen as options if Summerville had moved on from Leeds in January. The journalist wrote:

“Various clubs in Europe were asking about Summerville but Marcelo Bielsa’s instinct was to hang onto him. The danger, as Leeds saw it, was that if Summerville insisted on moving on loan, as Cody Drameh did, then Bielsa might quickly usher him out the door.

“In which case, the club would be another man down and under pressure to rustle up a replacement. They took a tentative look at Takumi Minamino of Liverpool and Chelsea’s newly back from loan Kenedy but stepped back again once the decision to retain Summerville was made.”

The Verdict: Chance for Summerville to shine

Summerville is unlikely to be a key figure at Leeds in the coming months, considering that the likes of Raphinha, Jack Harrison and Dan James are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

That being said, he could see it as a great opportunity to prove his long-term worth to the club, potentially affecting games upon coming off the bench and looking to create opportunities from out wide.

He caught the eye of Beren Cross last summer, with the Leeds Live journalist describing the youngster as “a runaway train” after some very impressive performances.

A loan move would have had its benefits in terms of the likelihood of more playing time, but Summerville could arguably learn more from training alongside some of his illustrious Leeds teammates. Also, as Hay pointed out, it would have left Bielsa sweating on bringing in someone like Minamino or Kenedy in order to fill the void.

For Scotland the win signalled a welcome return to form after they failed to reach the world Twenty20 finals, losing all three of their group qualifying games.They fully deserved the success over the Foxes, producing a solid all-round team performance after losing the toss. Their bowlers restricted the home side to a below par total of 217 for 7 despite conceding 20 wides in a total of 25 extras.But they still managed to contain the home batsmen with only Jacques Du Toit and James Taylor really finding any form, both of them scoring half-centuries as they shared a second wicket stand of 105. صحيفة “ستاندرد” البريطانية، وفقًا لما أوردته سبورت الإسبانية، أكدت أن ويلفريد زاها يتواجد على رادار برشلونة ويوفنتوس، كما ارتبط بـ آرسنال وتشيلسي.

Aston Villa have been thriving ever since Steven Gerrard was appointed as Dean Smith’s replacement as manager, following a bad start to the season which left them 16th after losing five consecutive games in the Premier League during the autumn.

Villa have picked up 16 points in 10 games under the 41-year-old and now sit level on points with 10th- placed Leicester City in the league table, with Gerrard’s impact on the side clear to see.

Despite the U-turn that the Liverpool legend has inspired so far at Villa, not every player has benefited from his presence at the club, with Danny Ings failing to make an impact ever since he was signed last summer.

It is clear that the 29-year-old and fellow striker Ollie Watkins can’t find the connection when they play together, with Ings scoring three of his four Premier League goals this season when his strike partner was not on the pitch.

At the end of December, it was revealed that the former Southampton forward had the lowest non-penalty xG per 90 (0.15) and the lowest xA per 90 (0.02) of any Premier League forward so far this season, and has since scored just one goal.

Ings’ presence is clearly affecting Watkins’ output too, as the latter has been relocated out wide to accommodate the ex-Liverpool striker, Nonetheless, he has scored more than Ings, with five goals and one assist in 19 appearances so far this season.

Former Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor weighed in on the lack of connection between the two strikers. Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “For me, when I watch Watkins play as a central striker making runs into the channels, that’s where I want to see him, that’s what gets the best out of him.

“Every time I’ve watched Ings and Watkins play together it hasn’t worked, something isn’t working with their connection.”

Now that Gerrard has signed Philippe Coutinho, it could be the right time to axe the £19.8m-rated Ings from the team. That would Watkins to revert to his preferred position up top, with Emi Buendia and Coutinho out wide, a setup which was clearly more effective in Villa’s first win in three games against Everton recently.

It will be interesting to see how the Villa manager tackles the challenge of setting up his forward line, especially when Leon Bailey returns from injury. Unfortunately for Ings, he simply hasn’t done enough since the start of the season to merit being a regular in the starting XI, so it may be time for Gerrard to wield the axe on him.

Mukund had struck six fours in his fifty which came of 60 balls, and was flustered by the way his innings was ended.Pujara was determined to make up for the misunderstanding, and with Manoj Tiwary took the innings into overdrive. Tiwary hustled for 41 off 45 balls, but the mainstay of the 109-run stand was Pujara who kept accelerating through the innings. Haynes takes over from Jeff Broomes, who managed the team for the West Indies Cricket Board’s four-day tournament.The team has retained allrounder Ryan Hinds as captain and Emmerson Trotman as head coach. Vasbert Drakes will be the assistant coach while Jacqui King has been appointed the team physiotherapist.Since retiring from cricket, Haynes has served as the first-vice president of the Barbados Cricket Association and been the chairman of the West Indies selection panel. Over the course of his 16-year playing career he made 7487 runs in 116 Tests and 8648 in 238 ODIs.Eight teams are set to compete in the Caribbean T20, with the winner going on to represent the West Indies in the Champions League T20 tournament in South Africa in September.
