Rangers fans on NFT scheme

Many Glasgow Rangers fans have been left fuming over some news that has emerged involving their Non-Fungible Token (NFT) scheme.

The Ibrox faithful announced the new scheme earlier this month, which has been set up to commemorate their 2020/21 title-winning campaign.

The tokens allow supporters of the Teddy Bears to be entered on a blockchain ledger of payments, of which there are 1,111 in total, so that they can purchase various items related to their title success.

The Light Blues have now made the items in the ‘Rangers FC Champions NFT Collection’ available to buy on their official website, with NFT’s that have to be purchased in order to give the supporters a chance of winning them.

While taking the Scottish Premiership title off of the hands of bitter rivals Celtic was a triumph at the time, it seems a lot of Gers just want to concentrate on this season now, following their 3-1 loss at home to Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Others see it as nothing more than a money-making scheme, given that you would have to buy a significant amount of tokens to give yourself the best chance of winning.

Dyson questions WICB's professionalism

John Dyson has broken his silence over his shock axing as West Indies head coach by strongly questioning the professionalism of the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) decision makers

John Dyson has described the impasse between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the senior players as a “tragedy”•Associated Press

John Dyson has broken his silence over his shock axing as West Indies head coach by questioning the professionalism of the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) decision makers. Conde Riley, the outgoing Barbados board member, stated last week that Dyson had been sacked for failing to sign a contract with the WICB, however the former Australian batsman countered that no suitable deal had been extended to him.According to Dyson, the first contract offered to him by the West Indies board was addressed to Bennett King, the former Queensland coach who preceded him in the role. Subsequent attempts to clarify disputed clauses within the document were not resolved, he added, prompting him to withhold his signature for the entire 19 months he was at the helm.Dyson was fired after West Indies’ calamitous series defeat to Bangladesh, during which the board named a severely depleted squad in the absence of striking senior players to avoid a heavy ICC fine. West Indies lost their last four Tests under Dyson, but recorded commendable victories over South Africa, Sri Lanka and England in the 15 matches before industrial strife tore the team apart.”It is correct that I didn’t sign a contract, but the question is why,” Dyson told Cricinfo. “The first contract I was presented with had written on it Bennett King’s name and address. Obviously, I couldn’t sign that. Then there were three points I felt needed clarification. It took more than two months for them to clarify the first point, and they never got back to me on points two and three. I was never offered a contract I felt reflected what we had discussed previously. But it would seem the WICB have problems with contracts with quite a few people, and not just me.”The only discussion I have had thus far was a phone call from (acting chief executive) Steve Camacho. He told me the executive of the board had decided to terminate my employment with immediate effect. When I told him that I was a bit shocked and asked him why, he said that he was just the messenger and that he had fulfilled his duty as messenger. I haven’t heard any more since then. If I had been in some drunken fight then and brought disgrace upon myself and the board then perhaps I could understand. When I was working for the (NSW) department of education there was a process to follow in these sorts of matters. It has been disappointing.”Dyson has described the ongoing industrial dispute between the West Indies board and players as a “tragedy.” The impasse has resulted in West Indies naming severely weakened squads for the bilateral series against Bangladesh and the Champions Trophy. The team, under the captaincy of 37-year-old Floyd Reifer, slumped to 2-0 and 3-0 defeats to Bangladesh in the Test and one-day series respectively, and will now head to South Africa without the bulk of their senior players, including Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.”It’s a tragedy that West Indies is playing international cricket without its strongest team on the park,” he said, “To me, Test cricket is about the best players from your part of the world playing against the best players from another part of the world and that did not happen against Bangladesh. That is not to talk down the new team – there are players there who I think have now overtaken one or two of the older team – but the fact is that the best team hasn’t been playing.”I made my Test debut playing for Australia during the world series split, but I didn’t really feel like I made my debut until after I was being picked with all the players back. I still feel like that to this day. What happened in the series against Bangladesh was extremely sad. Some of the blokes in that series showed that they were ready for the step up – guys like Kemar Roach, Travis Dowlin and Darren Sammy – but any team is going to miss the likes of Gayle, Chanderpaul, Sarwan, Ramdin, Bravo, Taylor, Edwards when fit and Benn when in form. If they could get their best side on the park I think they could give a tournament like the Champions Trophy a real shake. But to survive, West Indies cricket needs its best team on the park.”Mediation talks between the WICB and the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) broke down last week, prompting Bharrat Jagdeo, the Guyana president, to strongly criticise the board for proceeding with the naming of a weakened Champions Trophy squad at a time when a compromise appeared within reach. The dispute over payment and intellectual property raged behind the scenes during West Indies’ ill-fated tour of England and descended into fully fledged industrial action ahead of the home series against Bangladesh.”There had been a lot of industrial problems on the tour of England and I had asked the board that at all costs make sure they end the industrial relations issues so we could pick the best West Indies side out there,” Dyson said. “I don’t think anything can happen until there is some sort of resolution. There have been a lot of people talking without a lot of positive action being taken. There is fault on both the WIPA and the board side.”

Watling, Styris and Southee for Pakistan ODIs

The trio got a look-in to make up for the absence of Jesse Ryder, Grant Elliott and Daryl Tuffey, who all picked injuries during the Champions Trophy

An injury-hit New Zealand have handed a maiden international call-up to Northern Districts opener BJ Watling and comebacks to Scott Styris and Tim Southee. The trio got a look-in for the limited-overs fixtures against Pakistan in the UAE to make up for the absence of Jesse Ryder, Grant Elliott and Daryl Tuffey, who sustained injuries during the Champions Trophy. Nathan McCullum, dropped for the Champions Trophy, has been recalled in place of Jeetan Patel.South African-born Watling, 24, has been a solid performer for ND this past domestic season, averaging 63.62 in the one-day competition. He was awarded a winter contract last year in a deal that ran from May to September and covered the Emerging Players Tournament in Queensland and the New Zealand A tour of India. He made 94 and 115 not out in Australia and 97 in India. With New Zealand dropping back-up wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins, Watling will serve as understudy to Brendon McCullum.Southee and Styris last played ODIs at home against India in March. Aaron Redmond, who was flown in to South Africa as Ryder’s replacement, has been retained.Daniel Vettori, after his first decision-making stint as a selector, said the choices had been tough despite the number of injuries. “This tour is a good opportunity for Watling to get a taste of top-level cricket – as selectors we believe he’s got strong potential as a top-order batsman. Aaron made a strong case for his inclusion with confident performances at the World Twenty20 and Champions Trophy.”Nathan and Tim will give us flexibility and options, which will suit the short, sharp nature of this tour – but Jeetan Patel and Iain O’Brien are continuing to push hard for places in the squad. Coming off a great performance in the Champions Trophy there’s a confidence in the squad that we can do well in this series on neutral ground.”New Zealand will depart for Dubai on October 27. After three ODIs and two Twenty20s, they will host Pakistan for three Tests. Ryder (abdominal strain), Elliott (broken right thumb) and Tuffey (broken right hand) will be reassessed prior to that series. Vettori, who missed the final of the Champions Trophy, and Jacob Oram, who announced his retirement from Tests this week, remain subject to fitness assessments on their hamstrings.New Zealand: Daniel Vettori (capt), Shane Bond, Neil Broom, Ian Butler, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum (wk), Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Jacob Oram, Aaron Redmond, Tim Southee, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, BJ Watling.

Should Liverpool sign Luis Diaz?

Liverpool will head into the January transfer window with some important decisions to make.

They are well within reach of securing another Premier League title but they will have to negotiate the choppy waters of a winter period without Sadio Mane and most importantly, Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian sensational has been nothing short of mesmerising this term, finding the net on 19 occasions already.

He has had to lift his game in the absence of Roberto Firmino but when he heads off to the African Cup of Nations with his offensive colleague next month, the club’s lack of depth could be exposed.

Of course, Diogo Jota will be a good stand-in having taken his tally to the campaign to nine strikes, but no one is ever coming close to replicating what Salah offers Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Adding to their ranks in the New Year would be a smart decision from Michael Edwards and FSG, but who will they turn to?

One player mooted with a switch to Anfield is Porto forward Luis Diaz. The Colombian featured against the Reds in the Champions League earlier this season and has demonstrated some jaw-dropping attributes this term which would make him a perfect fit in Merseyside.

Indeed, he has found the net 12 times in only 19 appearances this term for the Portuguese outfit, putting in some dazzling displays from the flanks.

He recently scored a screamer in a clash with Vitoria Guimaraes, rifling an effort right into the postage stamp after cutting inside. It was a goal that summed up why he’d be such a good capture for Liverpool, especially when Mane leaves his role vacant on the left wing next month.

That beautiful goal was perfectly summed up by Marino Peixoto, a Portuguese football enthusiast, who took to social media to say the following:

“The rate at which Luís Diaz is churning out otherworldly performances coupled with his ability to score screamers like this on a consistent basis is genuinely frightening. Only a matter of time before somebody pays an astronomical fee for him.”

And what may that fee be, I hear you ask? Well, it’s thought that Porto would be willing to part with the player if their price tag of €50m (£42m) is met.

That shouldn’t deter Liverpool who are clearly in need of adding further bodies to their ranks.

Diaz’s ability to carve out offensive opportunities for both himself and his teammates is inspirational and as presenter Manas Singh says, he is a “livewire” in the final third.

Based on the above evidence, FSG must do all they can to ensure he swaps the blue and white of Porto for the red of Liverpool next year. The thought of him lining up alongside the likes of Salah and Jota is a mouth-watering one. Klopp’s attack could be about to get even scarier; imagine that.

AND in other news, FSG must seal Liverpool swoop for “Jota-esque” £13m beast who sent VVD “for a hot dog”…

Inzamam-ul-Haq backs Shahid Afridi as ODI captain

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan captain, has called for Shahid Afridi to lead the one-day side

Cricinfo staff06-Nov-2009

Shahid Afridi’s leadership has impressed Inzamam-ul-Haq•Associated Press

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan captain, has called for Shahid Afridi to lead the one-day side as well. Afridi was named Twenty20 captain after Younis Khan retired from the format after leading Pakistan to the World Twenty20 title in June and has continued to excel as a match-winning allrounder.Afridi was instrumental in this summer’s triumph, turning in Man-of-the-Match performances in both the semi-final and the final. “I think after becoming Twenty20 captain Shahid has shown that he has become more mature and responsible as a player also,” Inzamam was quoted as saying by the .The last five years have been the most productive of Afridi’s career, where despite brief patches of indifference, he has established himself as a fixture in Pakistan’s limited-overs set-up. His form has been particularly good this year, with impressive performances in the ODI series and Twenty20 against Australia in Dubai in May, his critical role in leading Pakistan to the World Twenty20 title, and now in the first ODI against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi. Allied to his player-of-the-tournament contributions in the 2007 World Twenty20, another indicator of his suitability to this format, Afridi’s ascension became inevitable.”I think it would be a good choice because Afridi also gets along well with the other players of the team and has good communication skills and since he was given responsibility, he has been very effective in his individual performances as well,” said Inzamam. He also said that Younis’ run of bad form represented a longer pattern of ODI indifference this year: “He is under pressure and unless the captain is contributing as a player it adds to the pressure on the other members of the team.”Inzamam also criticised Younis, the coach Intikhab Alam and chief selector Iqbal Qasim for Shoaib Malik for the first game against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi. “It is a stupid thing they did because he is too experienced a player to be dropped or sacrificed for accommodating two regular openers,” he said. “Malik’s exclusion has spoilt the balance of the team and this will be obvious against stronger sides.”After the ongoing limited-overs series in the UAE, Pakistan will travel to New Zealand for three Tests after which they hop across the Tasman to play Australia.
