وصف سكوت باركر، المدير الفني لفريق بورنموث، هزيمتهم اليوم أمام ليفربول بتسعة أهداف دون رد بـ”اليوم الأكثر ألمًا في مسيرته الكروية”.

وأضاف: “هذا ليس عذرًا، لأن هناك بعض الأهداف التي كانت نتيجة لعملنا، كنا ضعفاء للغاية في الأهداف التي جاءت من الركلات الثابتة، كان يمكننا فعل شيء حيال ذلك”.

وواصل: “أشعر بالأسف للجماهير، وأشعر بالأسف للاعبين لأننا غير مجهزين قليلاً على هذا المستوى من حيث أتينا وما لدينا، لقد كان الأمر صعبًا”.

وأردف: “لدينا لاعبون يختبرون الدوري الإنجليزي للمرة الأولى، بالطبع لم أكن أتصور أبدًا أننا سنأتي إلى هنا ونخسر 9-0، ولكنني توقعت ورأيت أشياءً خلال الصيف حيث كنت أعرف أن هذا الموسم سيكون تحديًا حقيقيًا لنا في لحظات معينة، في بعض المباريات”.

وأكد: “هذا هو أصعب يوم كلاعب وبالتأكيد كمدرب، هذا هو اليوم الأكثر إيلامًا الذي عشته، شعرت أنه كان مؤلمًا للاعبين على أرض الملعب أيضًا، شعرت بكل واحد منهم لأنه كانوا بحاجة إلى بعض المساعدة وكانت المستويات رائعة للغاية”.

ولدى سؤاله عما إذا كانت لديه رسالة يرسلها إلى جماهير بورنموث بعد النتيجة المهينة التي شهدها الحاضرين، أضاف باركر: “نعم، لقد كان الأمر مؤلمًا، أنا آسف جدًا لهذه النتيجة ولكني أود أن أعتقد أن المشجع العام سيتفهم ما كان عليه الأمر، يرون أن الفريق كان يحاول كل ما في وسعه، كانت المستويات كبيرة جدًا لنا”.

وأوضح: “الليلة ستكون ليلة طويلة بلا نوم وأنا متأكد من أن اللاعبين سوف يفكرون وسيكون من الصعب التعامل مع الموقف، نحن نتعلم دروسًا قاسية حقيقية، وفي بعض الأحيان ربما يكون ذلك غير عادل”.

وواصل: “نخطط لصناعة منتج يكون جاذب للرعاة ويحقق للأهلي أعلى عائد ممكن، وشركة الأهلي كانت قد تواصلت مع إحدى شركات الخطوط الجوية وغيرها ولكن لم يتم الاتفاق على شيء حتى الآن”.

وتابع: “بالأمس عقدنا اجتماعًا مع محمود الخطيب والمدير التنفيذي للنادي وبعض أعضاء المجلس وتم الاتفاق على تنفيذ الخطة التي عملنا عليها منذ 10 أشهر، وسنكمل مسيرة العمل والتواصل مع الشركات والمفاوضات، واستقبال العروض الجديدة التي ترغب في رعاية النادي”.

وتابع: “رحيل شركة الكرة لن يؤثر على تعاقدنا مع الأهلي، بالأمس عقدنا اجتماعًا مع محمود الخطيب والمدير التنفيذي للنادي وبعض أعضاء المجلس وتم الاتفاق على تنفيذ الخطة التي عملنا عليها، وسنكمل مسيرة العمل والتواصل مع الشركات والمفاوضات، واستقبال العروض الجديدة التي ترغب في رعاية النادي”.

وأردف: “هناك دراسات خلال الفترة الماضية أن الأهلي سواء بالرعاية أو البث أو المشاريع فستتخطى الأرقام التي يتم تداولها”.

واختتم: “رعاة النادي الأهلي قد يصلوا الـ12 راعيًا والاعلان عن كل التفاصيل قبل الموسم الجديد”.

“He came to my office asking for a loan, he went to Shrewsbury, but this kid said to me then, ‘When I come back, I want to be number one’. We looked at each other because we had De Gea and this kid never played one game, but he has had incredible development.

“The loans were all very successful. The way United organised them I think United did amazing for him and he did amazing for himself. He has this arrogance in him, this trust and belief which I think an England goalkeeper needs.”

This, along with his statistics in the top-flight to date, highlights the potential the £120k-per-week gem has heading into the rest of his career. 24 is incredibly young for a goalkeeper and Howe could bring in the club’s number one for years to come if he signs him, as he has shown that he has the quality to keep clean sheets in the Premier League.

Therefore, he has the potential to be a top-tier goalkeeper for a number of years and could be the next Tim Krul at St. James’ Park as he could come in and solidify his place in the starting XI if he is able to fulfil his potential and remain consistent.

There was a certain irony that on the day plans for a major Twenty20 tournament in the USA were announced, the USA Cricket Association’s chief executive, Don Lockerbie, was at Lord’s watching an Ashes Test, a format many seem to think is growing less relevant by the year.Lockerbie was in town to meet with leading administrators to advance his plan to make the USA a major cricketing destination. While he wants to build the USA into a leading cricketing power, he also believes Twenty20 cricket is a format made for the American audience.”I’d like to see a successful, world-class, best-players-in-the-game tournament, an invitational franchise league or something like that, in the near future,” he said. “That would be the dream. It’s too early to say what kind of format that would be, but we’re putting out a tender for proposal.”Will that, as has been rumoured, be another IPL? “The IPL as I look at it now is a remarkable, fantastic model to follow. Look at what it’s been able to do. Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is attracting significant interest ahead of the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), who claim that Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma side are interested in signing the 23-year-old during the upcoming winter market.

However, the report does go on to suggest that Steven Gerrard’s arrival at Villa Park could well have modified Aston Villa’s stance regarding the player’s future, with previous reports suggesting that Dean Smith was open to parting with the Brazil international this summer.

Finally, it is claimed that, in order for the Premier League side to begin considering the sale of Douglas Luiz, a fee of €35m (£30m) would be required, something that would also prove to be a stumbling block for the Serie A side.

Considering just how impressive Douglas Luiz has been for Aston Villa so far this season, the argument that selling the defensive midfielder would be something of a disaster for NSWE is a rather easy one to make.

Indeed, over his eight Premier League appearances this term, the £31.5m-rated man has registered two assists, created one big chance for his teammates and has made an average of 1.6 key passes per game.

The player who Gianni Di Marzio dubbed as “like Miralem Pjanic” has also impressed in metrics more typical of his position, making an average of 1.5 interceptions, 1.6 tackles, 0.8 clearances and winning five tackles per fixture.

These returns have seen the £52k-per-week Brazilian average a SofaScore match rating of 7.03, ranking him as Villa’s second-best performer in the top flight.

As such, considering his obvious ability both in front of the defence as well as going forwards, it would seem highly likely that Douglas Luiz is a player who Steven Gerrard will build his favoured three-man midfield around at Villa Park, meaning the 23-year-old’s sale in January would undoubtedly be something that would leave the 41-year-old fuming.
