After Aymeric Laporte’s injury was confirmed, ruling him out until the start of next year, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola would no doubt have been scratching his head as to how he would go about replacing the Frenchman.

The former Athletic Bilbao defender’s injury means that City are significantly short on cover at centre-back.

However, in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, 18-year-old Eric Garica delivered an assured display at the heart of the Citizens’ defence, helping his side register a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Preston North End.

After seeing the Spaniard’s performance, City fans flooded Twitter to voice their thoughts on the teenage defender.

Many supporters of the Manchester club lauded the former Barcelona academy product’s ability to remain composed on the ball, with one fan, in particular, suggesting he reminds him of a “young (Fabio) Cannavaro”.

Some fans even went into over-drive with their praise, with another supporter insisting Garcia is the “best centre-back to be alive”.

وأشارت إلى إنه تم منح الأندية مهلة 48 ساعة إضافية حتى الأربعاء، للتعبير عن أفكارهم حول سلسلة الأحداث التي وقعت هذا الموسم.

وأفادت أن الأندية أبدت إحباطها من بعض القرارات القاسية في الموسم الحالي، خاصة فيما يتعلق بلمسة اليد وقرارات ركلات الجزاء.

ويأمل أعضاء أندية الدوري الإنجليزي أن يؤدي الاجتماع المرتقب إلى تحسين تقنية الفيديو استعدادًا للموسم الجديد.

ووفقًا للصحيفة نفسها، فإن أندية الدوري الإنجليزي تدرك أنه لا يمكن أن يكون هناك اتساق في قرارات تقنية الفيديو بنسبة 100 %، ولكنهم في الوقت نفسه يريدون سياسة محددة كنقطة انطلاق لقرارات الحكام، سواء على أرض الملعب أو لأولئك المسؤولين عن تقنية الفيديو.

وذكرت تقارير صحفية مؤخرًا أن برشلونة توصل إلى اتفاق مبدئي مع فينالدوم بشأن الحصول على توقيعه، نهاية الموسم الحالي.

يرى الدولي الألماني، توني كروس، لاعب وسط فريق ريال مدريد، أنّ قرار استمرار إقامة كأس العالم 2022 في قطر، كان أمرًا خاطئًا وذلك بسبب التقارير الصحفية التي تشير إلى انتهاكها حقوق الإنسان خلال الاستعدادات لاستضافة المونديال العام القادم.

وسائل الإعلام الإنجليزية، خلال الفترة الماضية، كشفت عن سقوط الآلاف من الضحايا بين العمال في مواقع بناء الملاعب داخل القطر، منذ الحصول على حق استضافة البطولة في 2010.

وأتم تصريحاته بالحديث عن دعوات المقاطعة لكأس العالم قائلًا: “ما الذي ستحققه المقاطعة؟ هل ستغير ظروف العمل؟ لا أعتقد، يجب أنّ نستغل البطولة من أجل لفت الانتباه إلى مثل هذه الأفعال، كرة القدم تثير الانتباه دائمًا، سواء كان ذلك قبل البطولة أو اثناءها”.

This could end up being a case of ‘the one that got away’.

This isn’t something that has been an issue of Leeds fans just recently, their concerns have been there since pre-season, so it’s not like the Leeds board weren’t aware of the problem from an early stage.

This is why it’s possible that Leeds might start living to regret their decision to let go of defender Aapo Halme in the summer window.

The 21-year-old Finnish defender left the club for Barnsley and has got off to a pretty reasonable start at his new club, even if the Reds haven’t exactly got off to the best of beginnings this season after sacking Daniel Stendell.

If you take a look at his statistics so far this season, you can see where he might have brought some benefit to the west Yorkshire side.

An average of 4.1 aerial duels won (which given that he stands at 6’4 shouldn’t be surprising), 1.16 tackles per game and 1.1 interceptions on top of that, are all areas that he is performing better in than some of the other players in the current Leeds United team like Barry Douglas and the aforementioned Berardi.

The move was greeted by some scepticism from Leeds United fans when it was completed during the summer, and what makes the whole thing worse is that they let him go on a permanent deal – it can certainly be seen as a blunder now they’re struggling for options.
