The question on many English and Irish fans over the weeks was, who would Declan Rice choose to play for?

After playing for the Republic of Ireland in recent years, he had a big decision to make. Now, the West Ham midfielder has opted to play for England, where he was born rather than continue with Ireland.

This decision incurred different reactions from the two sets of supporters. England fans are, naturally, delighted to get such a hard-working, vibrant midfielder, while Ireland fans were left disappointed. Rice has been making waves in the Premier League, having put on some memorable performances for the Hammers this season.

Sensing his rise in popularity, Rice caved into the demands of his home fans to pledge his alliance with England. However, he could’ve gotten better assurances over playing time with Ireland. Mick McCarthy had even insisted that he would build his team around Rice in the future, a big compliment for him as the former Ipswich boss looks to make his side far more competitive than in recent years.

While he would’ve been a natural selection for Ireland, breaking into the England team isn’t going to be easy. With the likes of Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Jesse Lingard having consolidated themselves as regulars and youngsters like Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Harry Winks coming up, it’ll be difficult for him to break in soon.

Rice has the potential to become a regular for England and solidify their midfield with his tough-tackling demeanour. However, he’s opted to take the high-road to success, ignoring the immediate, relatively smaller stardom the Irish presented him.

وقال المصدر في تصريحات خاصة لـ بطولات: “الفرنسي سيباستيان ديسابر المدير الفني السابق لبيراميدز يدخل ضمن قائمة المرشحين لتولي تدريب الزمالك”.

وتابع: “وجاء ذلك بعد عرضه على مسئولي النادي من أحد وكلاء اللاعبين، كما طُرح أسم اليوناني تاكيس جونياس المدير الفني لوادي دجلة وإن كان لم يلق المدرب اليوناني قبول كبيرة لدى مسئولي النادي الأبيض”.

وأوضح المصدر أن جيسفالدوا فيريرا المدرب السابق للزمالك باتت عودته محتملة إلى تولي منصب المدير الفني، بعدما طُرح اسمه من جانب أمير مرتضى المشرف العام على فريق الكرة”.

وأكمل: “خاصة أن المدرب لا يتولى تدريب ناد في الوقت الحالي بجانب أنه كان يبدي مرونة في العودة لتدريب الزمالك مرة أخرى”.

وأختتم: “فيريرا هو المدرب الذي ألمح مرتضى منصور رئيس النادي لتولي تدريب الزمالك لخلافة كارتيرون سبق له تولي تدريب الفريق الكروي”.

Leeds have recalled Will Huffer from his loan spell at Barnet after academy goalkeeper Kamil Miazek sustained an injury and the 20-year-old will slot back into Carlos Corberan’s Under-23’s side.

Miazek injured a finger warming up with the development side prior to the win over Bolton Under-23’s on Monday and this leaves Marcelo Bielsa light of options between the sticks beyond Kiko Casilla.

Huffer made his first-team bow in November as injuries forced Bielsa to call upon the academy and is now set to be third-choice keeper behind Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Casilla, who departed Real Madrid to sign in January.

Meanwhile, Miazek’s injury makes him the latest in a number suffered by the Leeds squad this season that have inevitably created doubts over whether the Whites’ group of players is vast enough to cope with the Premier League – should they be promoted, that is.

The Elland Road outfit host Bolton on Saturday and will be itching to regain their seat at the top of the Championship – the pressure is on after West Brom won at QPR on Tuesday night and Bielsa’s men cannot afford to drop too many more points between now and the end of the season if they’re title and promotion hopes are to be realised.

Leeds fans on Twitter though, just seem glad that Miazek is the reason Huffer has been recalled, rather than an injury to first-choice Casilla.

Origi was given the nod to start last night due to Roberto Firmino’s absence through injury.

The back-up striker’s reputation of late has largely been defined by his last-gasp winner against Everton in the Merseyside derby earlier this season, but his glowing performance against Watford suggested that he could have a more prominent role to play.

Speaking ahead of the game to Liverpool’s official website, Klopp suggested that Origi had earned the opportunity to impress with his attitude in training, and the fringe man’s perseverance in his endeavour to impress the boss could yet provide him with a genuine chance to transform his career.

“Div deserves it, like all the others we could have chosen would have deserved it because the training attitude is brilliant.

“It’s not good, of course, that Bobby isn’t available, but it’s always nice to give somebody else the next chance. That’s Div now; he has trained really well.”

Future role for Origi

Large sections of the Reds faithful have been calling for the signing of a new centre-forward for a considerable length of time.

Roberto Firmino’s preference to drop deep to influence the game and Daniel Sturridge’s injury problems have deprived Klopp of a more natural number nine, but Origi could yet fill that notable void, even if he was deployed on the left side of the front-three last night.

Klopp’s comments suggest that he has seen something on the training ground which indicates he has turned a corner in his development, and with further exposure to first-team opportunities he could transform his career.

Just a few weeks ago Origi would have been written off as a certain summer sale, but the Liverpool manager’s recent admission combined with a fine performance against the Hornets point towards a different future.

The north London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal ended in a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon. An early Aaron Ramsey strike was cancelled out by a second half Harry Kane penalty.

The scoreline could have been much higher had it not been for both of the goalkeepers on the pitch. Spurs’ captain and No. 1 Hugo Lloris saved a last minute penalty from Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. At the other end of the pitch, the Gunners’ shot-stopper Bernd Leno pulled off a magnificent double save to deny Christian Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko.

The Arsenal ‘keeper had a good game all round, and will be furious to have lost his clean sheet to the penalty. Since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium in the summer, the 26-year-old ‘keeper has gradually grown in stature. The German is now Unai Emery’s established No. 1 and looks to be a reliable first choice for the north London club to have.

Yesterday evening saw the Owls continue their incredible unbeaten run under Steve Bruce as they made it to nine games without defeat by beating Bolton 2-0 at the Macron Stadium. The win was in no small part down to the ex-Aston Villa man’s influence, and the fans are lapping it up as they continue to fight with the hope of sneaking into the playoffs.

Towards the end of Bruce’s time at Aston Villa, the fans were all calling for his head. Yet at Hillsborough, the Owls are absolutely loving him and his efforts. Four wins and five draws after he took the job have put the Sheffield side well in the mix for a top-six spot, even if some of those draws should have been wins. Regardless, as Bruce continues to implement his ways his side is only getting better.

Much like the 58-year-old manager had Jack Grealish playing his best football at Villa Park, the experienced Bruce has breathed new life into Rolando Aarons, a January loanee from Newcastle. If he can continue to get the best from his squad, and Aarons in particular, then there is really no reason why the Owls can’t sneak into the top six ahead of the likes of Derby, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest.
