Lineker brands Everton a ‘shambles’

There was so much promise surrounding Everton at the start of the season after the team spent more than £100m on new signings.Ronald Koeman and the owners had ambitions of challenging the top six in the Premier League, but as it stands, the team are a far cry from where they had hoped to be.Koeman is no longer in the hotseat at Goodison Park and the club currently reside two points above the relegation zone. The team have won just three of their 13 top-flight fixtures and life under interim coach David Unsworth is looking bleak considering that the last two results in all competitions have ended in a 5-1 defeat and 4-1 loss.Everton made a managerial change over a month ago and numerous names, including Sam Allardyce and Marco Silva, have been linked to the position.Despite this, the club are yet to appoint a permanent boss, which continues to leave the Toffees in a state of uncertainty.Gary Lineker, who played for Everton between 1985 and 1986, believes that Everton need to bring stability to the club as soon as possible.

Aston Villa fans frustrated by Kodjia injury setback

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has admitted that the club “fear the worst” for Jonathan Kodjia after he suffered an injury setback.

The 28-year-old has been out of action since October 29 when he hurt the same ankle that broke towards the end of last season.

Despite not being fit enough to return to competitive action, the forward did join up with the Ivory Coast squad during the international break.

While there, Kodjia aggravated the ankle problem and is now seeking a specialist in France to aid his recovery.

The news comes as a big blow to the Villans, who are hoping to get back on track after losing 2-1 to Sheffield Wednesday in their previous Championship outing.

The fans have also been left deflated by the news, and some have criticised the club for allowing Kodjia to go on international duty.

Villa will face Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Saturday.

Arsenal fans mock Tottenham Hotspur’s documentary premiere

It does not take much for rival fans to grasp an opportunity to mock their enemies.

Arsenal supporters jumped right in on Thursday night when Tottenham Hotspur held a premiere for their documentary film ‘The Lane’, which celebrates the history of the club’s former stadium White Hart Lane.

Spurs waved goodbye to their home of 118 years at the end of last season, and have been playing their home games in the 2017-18 campaign at Wembley.

Next season, though, they are expected to move into a brand new state-of-the-art ground that is currently being built adjacent to White Hart Lane.

It was a moment of celebration last night when manager Mauricio Pochettino and former Tottenham players attended ‘The Lane’ premiere at BT Sport Studios in Olympic Park.

The club promoted the event on Twitter, which automatically invited Arsenal fans to poke fun.

Many ridiculed their North London rivals and reminded opposing fans of the Gunners’ past joys at White Hart Lane.

Newcastle should seriously consider £4.5m-rated relegated right-back this summer

The Newcastle fans in and around the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Rafa Benitez can inspire his team again to another top ten finish in the Premier League.

Surprisingly to some, the Magpies reached the top 10 in the Premier League last season after enduring a terrific run of form towards the back-end of the campaign. Having already secured the signing of one relegated star in the form of Ki Sung-Yueng, our punters think adding fellow relegated star Moritz Bauer of Stoke City, (who is valued at £4.5 million on Transfermarkt) will help increase their defensive stability as they bid for another successful spell in the top flight.

Having joined the Potters in January this year, Bauer, although failing to help them avoid relegation, was one of their better and more consistent players which should be looked at by a team like Newcastle. The Magpies already have more attacking options such as Javier Manquillo and DeAndre Yedlin but Moritz Bauer offers quality in both attack and defence, as he can also play left-back and right-midfield, in addition to his favoured right-back position.

With other rivals strengthening in the transfer market as well, Newcastle have to follow suit to ensure they don’t fall behind and face another season of uncertainty. The versatility of the 26-year-old is admirable and given the need for cover in both full-back positions, this could be a sensible transfer for Newcastle.

Bauer showed in his short time with Stoke that he is worthy of another Premier League opportunity as one of the brightest stars in a relegated side, so should Newcastle be taking advantage of that?

Majority of Leeds fans want to see Joe Bryan at Elland Road next season

Leeds United are interested in signing Bristol City left-back according to The Yorkshire Post.

The 24-year-old speed demon was part of the Bristol City academy and has grown into a key player for Lee Johnson’s team.

He came to wider prominence after scoring the first goal in Bristol City’s historic 2-1 win against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United last season in the Carabao Cup.

The Bristol local plays as a modern wing-back, dominating the channel and used as much as an attacking threat as a defensive shield, which could suit Marcelo Bielsa’s idiosyncratic 3-3-3-1 formation if he elects to implement it at Leeds.

We asked Leeds fans if they wanted to sign Bryan who is valued at £4.5million on Transfermarkt, although reports suggest it might take more than £10million to pry the talent away from Bristol City.

The results of our poll show that Leeds fans would be happy to part with that sort of cash as 74 per cent of those polled wanted to sign the dynamo.

Bryan would be Leeds’ second signing of the summer after they announced a loan deal for Chelsea youngster Lewis Baker.

Everton will make huge statement of intent by signing in-demand Malcom

Everton are in advanced talks with Bordeaux to sign in-demand winger Malcom, according to Sky Sports News.

What’s the word?

Whenever Malcom has been mentioned in the transfer gossip columns, the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have been linked to his signature.

Everton were never thought to be potential suitors, but out of nowhere, Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol revealed on Tuesday that the Merseyside outfit are in talks to sign the Brazilian.

Given the level of interest in the 21-year-old, if a deal comes off, Everton will be signing a potential world beater.

Malcom made his breakthrough at Brazilian side Corinthians before signing for Bordeaux in 2016.

Since then, the attack-minded star has played in 84 Ligue 1 matches, scoring 20 goals and racking up 13 assists.

How would he fit in at Everton?

One thing that the Toffees have struggled to do is fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku when the striker joined Manchester United in the summer of 2017.

It is not so much the style of the Belgian’s game that Everton needed to replicate, but more so his goals.

Sam Allardyce tried to address it by recruiting Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott in the January transfer window.

Both managed to help the effort, but new manager Marco Silva wants to go that one step further by bringing in a talent that is guaranteed to score goals and provide them.

Malcom predominantly plays on the right wing, and while he can also switch to the left if needs be, it perhaps suggest that Silva is ready to make a major formation change in 2018/19 given he already has Walcott on the right.

Perhaps the former Watford chief is considering playing Walcott through the middle with Tosun, and finally moving away from the one up top system.

Revealed: 69% of West Ham fans would rather sign Mata than Payet

West Ham fans would love to add one more major signing to their incredible summer window, as over two thirds of fans voted to sign Juan Mata.

West Ham fans were slightly shell-shocked by the big transfer story last week, as The Guardian claimed Dimitri Payet could make a return to East London.

According to the Guardian report, Payet could leave Marseille due to financial problems for the French club, and the 31 year-old’s representatives have sounded out West Ham over a possible deal.

However, the Hammers could be better served swooping for Mata, who could look to leave Manchester United this summer in search of regular playing time.

The 30 year-old, who makes a whopping £140,000 a week at Old Trafford, still has plenty of gas left in the tank, and the arrival of Fred and potential arrival of another winger at Old Trafford could diminish his first team minutes even further.

West Ham added Felipe Anderson to their long list of impressive signings this summer, and with Lanzini out Mata could be the cherry on the cake needed to push the Hammers towards the top six.

Manuel Pellegrini has often opted for two up front in the past, but his signings since arriving in East London suggest he is gearing towards a 4-2-3-1, where Mata could be lethal in the number ten role behind Marko Arnautovic.

Fans have been having their say on the shock links to Payet, and a surprising 69 per cent would prefer to swoop for Mata.

West Ham fans rage at Obiang exit talks

West Ham fans are furious with the latest transfer news, as reports claim the Hammers are in talks to sell Pedro Obiang back to Sampdoria.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham are in advanced talks with Sampdoria for the 26 year-old midfielder.

The fee is believed to be in the region of £8.9m, which seems pretty bizarre considering the Hammers are lacking in that defensive midfield compartment.

Obiang swapped Sampdoria for East London in 2015, and has scored three Premier League goals in 67 appearances for the Hammers.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”255853″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch West Ham’s opening fixtures for the 201819 Premier League season”]

Plenty of fans consider the Spaniard to be their best defensive midfielder, and they’d much rather it was Kouyate who gets sold.

The Hammers have done some excellent business this summer, but losing Obiang for a rather nominal fee would be a disaster, especially after allowing William Carvalho to once again slip through the fingers.

The report says Southampton’s Mario Lemina is a possible replacement for the Spaniard, but fans really don’t want the sale to go through, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Schar could prove to be one of Newcastle United’s smartest ever signings

Newcastle have completed their fourth signing of the summer.

Eager to improve his defence, Rafael Benitez activated a £3m release clause to seal a deal for Deportivo La Coruna defender – Fabian Schar. The Swiss international becomes their fourth signing of the summer following Kenedy, Martin Dubravka and Ki Sung-Yueng to the club.

The arrival of Schar will add some much-needed cover at centre-back. The 26-year-old will attempt to force his way into the first-team after Florian Lejeune struck up a good partnership with Jamaal Lascelles. Following Chancel Mbemba’s departure, it was vital to replace him.

Valued at £2.7 by Transfermarkt, Schar may surprise a few on Tyneside next year if he can break into the starting eleven. Despite their relegation, the defender was a shining light in a poor season for Deportivo. He made 25 appearances in La Liga, scoring two and picking up two assists. His form continued at the World Cup with Switzerland where he played every minute of football for his country.

Schar is great with the ball at his feet but is also a solid defender. He averaged 2.4 tackles per game last season – more than any Newcastle defender; only Mohamed Diame made more in the entire squad (WhoScored). A tall, physical stopper, he should have no problems adapting to life in England and will give Newcastle a real threat from set-pieces.

The £3m price tag makes this one of the bargains of the summer.

Newcastle fans, thoughts?

Hijack: Manchester United should battle Inter Milan for Luka Modric’s signature

According to Di Marzio, Inter Milan agents have made contact with Real Madrid to negotiate a deal for Luka Modric.

The report states that Modric would be a dream signing for Inter Milan and that processes have been set in motion in order to attempt to make the deal happen.

If Modric were to exit the Bernabeu this summer then it would signify something of a changing of the guard for the Spanish giants, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane being the other senior figures to have already left the club.

If the Croatian were to arrive at the San Siro, then he’d be joining his fellow international teammates Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic on the books at the Serie A club.

If this development means that Real Madrid are open to offers on Modric though, then Inter Milan shouldn’t be allowed a free run to signing the midfielder.

Modric would be an asset to many major European clubs, who should all be making their interest in the World Cup Golden Ball winner known.

Manchester United should take this chance to bolster their midfield options with the addition of this world class playmaker.

The Breakdown

Jose Mourinho has already added to his midfield contingent this summer in the form of Fred, however, the Red Devils still lack an elite out and out creator in the centre of the park.

The presence of a figure like Modric would bode well for the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez. The Croatian’s inclusion in the squad at Old Trafford would transform the team going forward, and would make them a much more dynamic and fluent unit.

His Premier League experience, gained during his time with Spurs, also means that Modric would have no issues in adapting to life in English football.

Transfermarkt value the 32-year-old at £22.5 million. Even if this becomes a bidding war between United and Inter, signing Modric would be worth fighting all the way for.
